A "Gathering of Vipers" @ Lime Rock Park 8/31

You are invited to bring your car to “A Gathering of Vipers”

On Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. The Viper Owners Association and Lime Rock Park are organizing a Viper-only get-together at the famed 1.5 mile road racing circuit, during the Sunday in the Park Concours & Gathering of the Marques enthusiast meet.

All Viper owners are invited to bring your vehicles to join a display of the historic Dodge Viper GTS-R race car which had great success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Daytona 24, all located in “Big Bend,” a.k.a. Turn 1 of Lime Rock’s road course.

Beth Paretta, the manager of the current Viper racing program, will be in attendance, and we are working on getting Ralph Gilles to the event as a Guest Speaker as well!

The Viper Gathering is being held as a part of the much larger Sunday in the Park event, which features 250 stunning examples of automotive history on the Sam Posey Straight in the Concours, and an additional 700-plus cars in the giant enthusiast meet called Gathering of the Marques, which stretches around and fills the entire 1.5 mile race track. The Honored Guest for 2014’s Sunday in the Park is Sir Stirling Moss, the famous British racing driver, and the Honored Collector is Ralph Lauren. Five of
Lauren’s cars will be on display – something that has only ever happened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Louvre!

The cost is $25 per person, which allows you to park your Viper in the display next to the historic factory race car and gives you admission to walk through the entire Sunday in the Park event. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling Ryan McIntosh at Lime Rock Park at 1 (860) 435-5000, ext. 305 – they will have a registration process specifically for this special display.

Space is limited, so don’t hesitate to get your name on the list and get your tickets.

Hey Everyone coming up from LI, NYC, Westchester, etc...

I'm cruising up pretty early so not expecting a posse, but anyone who wants to come with, let me know. I will be leaving the rest area in the middle of the Hutch in Harrison NY at 6. We will stop at the Dunkin Donuts in Brewster on rt. 22 (across the road from the Red Rooster) and leave there by 7.

Let me know if you're planning to meet us at either spot, and if anyone wants to create a second group you could do the same spots an hour later and still be at Lime Rock by 9 no problem.

Hey, great to hear it! If you think you'll come up for this be sure to call Ryan right away (first post in thread) to get on the list just in case. It's a beautiful drive up there you'll love it. Weather looks good for most of the day.

I hope that everyone who drove home last night made it back safe. There were 2 other Vipers from NH and Rusty left with us after dinner. We got caught in some torrential rain. It was great to have some auto-crossing track experience to keep the car on the road!

Wow! What a drive home. My wife's cell phone got an Emergency Broadcast Alert at 830PM as we were getting onto 495N from the Mass Pike. "Tornado Alert! Seek shelter immediately" It handled pretty well in the rivers of rain, but I don't know if the viper could have sprouted wings in a tornado! Made it home safe and sound!

It was great to see everyone and thanks to all the NY/CT peeps who made the day possible!! Fun was had by all!

Sunday was a blast, guys! It was nice to see everyone, even if only for a short time. The bugs were killing me, so I stayed on the move and checked out the cars. Did about three laps around the track (average speed 2 mph, walking!) along with a hike up to the Gumball meet section. Thanks to everyone who put this together and the Gilles' for always being gracious and taking the time to hang out and chat with us!

I'm so bummed I missed my chance to drive a Gen V! Will do it someday, hope some of us got a chance to take it out.

Below are some pics I took of the most interesting and unique cars. Missed a few, like a French 1 seater box that had chain steering, and a single front wheel that rotated with the engine. There were simply too many cars to get them all!

As a new owner and huge car fan in general...I can honestly say that there wasn't a car at the show that I'd rather have than my Viper. I mean, other cars being worth more not withstanding. There were tons of awesome cars there, but dollar for dollar I wouldn't trade!
