MOPARS AT THE ROCK!!! - April 12, 2014

The 23rd annual "Mopars at the Rock" is scheduled for Saturday, April 12th in Rockingham, NC which is a great location for both North & South Carolina VOA members. Bring your Viper out to experience this annual car show, drag event, and swap meet exclusive to MOPARS!!! The gates open at 8:00am on Saturday morning. We are trying to determine how many members will be attending as the event planners have agreed to designate an area specifically for Vipers. We will also arrange caravans for Saturday morning. We won the club participation award last year! Let's do it again! Who can join us?

Call JonB @ Partsrack. Just ordered me a set today. If you order tomorrow, can probably be to your door by Friday or Monday at the latest. Then, just head to Discount Tire for mounting / balancing. Should be doable before the 12th, but I would order ASAP.

Yes, the strip is open for runs. We had several guys take advantage of this last year. That would be great if you could go....and your dad too.

I know, but i found a set of SS mounted and balanced( only used for about 200 miles) for$900, and after buying tires formy jeep ($1,300), plane tickets for my family(1,200), and the other goodies i bought for the car ($5,000), i'm going to have to wait for those, lol, hopefully i'll have them theweek after the rock, so i 'll be ready for the other events, i might drop there in the jeep anyway( want to see how good is she doing in the1/4. ;-)

Okay guys / gals, I think we're going to shoot to arrive in Rockingham around 10:30am. Therefore, for the Raleigh crew, we will meet for the caravan around 8:15am and leave promptly at 8:30am. Our caravan meeting location for the Raleigh crew will be the same location we met for Biltmore last year. Folks can gas up, check tire pressure, etc.

I'm pretty much equidistant between the Raleigh caravan and the Charlotte one. To meet with either is a 2-3 hour roundtrip extra drive. Anyone in the Winston/Greensboro/Asheboro corridor heading 220 south to Rockingham?

Yep, that's how I figured you'd be going. I've never had much fun going down 74 through Monroe and all that, seems like it's just stoplight to stoplight, but I don't know a better way to tell you to go. I'll know for sure by tomorrow if I'm coming down to the south of Charlotte to go over to Rockingham on the route you listed or if I'm going east on I40 (way north of Charlotte). I'm going to PM you my phone number and email address if you don't already have those.

Those of you going to the "ROCK" hope you guys have a great day looks like perfect weather...and for those who are going to do the 1/4 mile be careful (watch out for the other guy) and post the results. Wish we could go, but I promised a local car club I would support their "Critter & Car" show here in our small town. I think I'm the only owner of a Viper or at least the only one who drives one. Again, HAVE FUN BE SAFE & Post those 1/4 results.

OMG!!!!! What an AWESOME day! Great people, ours and the track and the event owners. The smell, well clouds of burning rubber, from all the MOPARS - and our guys - drag racing. We've got to entice Art from VA, just north of the NC border, to get a PO Box address in NC so he can be a Carolinas' member. :-) He must have made 6-7 runs with his gray GTS. And Logan, WOW, breaking the 12 second quarter mile. AWESOME! And not to forget Scott (I hope that's this name - oops) who had the B/W GTS running side-by-side with Logan's B/W GTS - Had the crowd awed.

Thanks to everyone for making this a great day! Can't wait for Tail of the Dragon...

Now, gotta go treat my SUNBURN!

Home from Rockingham (thanks Dave for the route suggestion - MUCH more enjoyable ride home).. Phenomenal day as always - hated that everyone couldn't get out to the dragstrip but we had an awesome time. Enjoyed meeting those we didn't know already!

We had a great showing of Vipers at this event! We had 2 caravans roll into Rockingham from Raleigh and Charlotte. We also had numerous snakes arrive from many other areas...even Virginia!. Our newest members Logan and Leeanna joined us in their 96 GTS...another fine addition to our group. It was nice to meet Emily, Kristian's wife too! We also got to meet Scott from Sanford with his beautiful 96 GTS...really nice guy. The club sported their *new* VOA t-shirts and windshield stickers at this event. Thanks everyone who came out. I'm hiding in the house today because I closely resemble a lobster. :)

Jeremy won the top award in the Viper class with his 2014 SRT Viper T/A!!!

Awesome pics... Glad the weather was great for you guys and all made it back in one piece. When you guys get time, I would be interested in your 60 ft - 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile times. I don't have a 1/4 mile track nearby but do have two 1/8 mile tracks about 90 minutes away. Just using 1st and 2nd gear isn't going to be all that fun for just 3 -5 runs at the 1/8 mile strip's T & T nights. Last time I went, years ago...to many motorcycles for the car enthusiast. Also what was the rule for convertibles...stock roll bar okay? Helmet required? thanks

No helmet required but the cut off was 12.99 1/4 mile times. So we should have worn one but they let it slide. I'm not sure about roll bar. But I would bet it's fine. My best run was as follows.
60-1.83
330-5.187
1/8-7.86
1000-10.12
1/4-11.99
This was on 93 gas, no slicks, later in the day when it was hot and my first time tracking this one.
Car specs
96 gts
K and n ram air
Corsa cat back with high flows
M&M headers
3.55 gears.

Thanks for the info. Great 60 ft times for street tires. IMO anything under 2.0 on street tires is very respectable. Nice time for the 1/4 mile the 3.55 helped there if all else is stock with the car. I used to take my 71 GTX to the strip weekly while station at Pope AFB and would run high 7's & low 8"s but never got the 60 ft below 2.0. Had about the same HP as my 2004 Viper, but not nearly the tire width, plus it was an automatic (Slap Stick) a whole lot easier to change gears. Again, great times and thanks for the info. Did anyone run a Gen III viper at the track. If so please post the results.

Nobody ran a Gen3 to my knowledge - we had 3 Gen2's that ran, pretty sure that was it.

Patrick thanks...In case anyone was wondering my times in the GTX posted above were fora 1/8 mile track...as I drove the car to work almost every day. Would have been awesome if it could have down the 1/4 in that time...wife like's the Viper much better. She said the GTX smelled of gas and oil, no A/C. very hot because of the Hooker Headers and had a tendency to break down a lot...she's a lot happier with the Viper. Hope to meet you guys really soon.

I took My 2006 last year and it was Bone Stock back then, my best was 11.98@118( or was it 11.89@119), it was one of both, but my 60 ft weren't verygood, plus the car booged down at the launch , , if i had done better launch prob had an 11.7 around, i was going to try it this year, but i'm still waiting on my tires, hopefully i'll have new times soon.

Yeah I was going to say 8 second quarters!! Those gears help a lot. I would like to see mid to low 11s. Look forward to meeting you as well.
