I need harnesses - what do I buy?

I just can't hold myself in place anymore when really caning it in the car. A good problem to have, but I'm tired of the rashes and want to bolt myself in. What belts work with the Gen V? How are they installed, do I need to use a shop? I am going to the Virginia City Hillclimb at the end of the month and would like to get this sorted before then if possible.

I'm in the same boat looking for harnesses. I had Team Tech before but would like to try something w/o the sternum straps. But I want to get them in Orange, who else make quality belts in Orange???

Team Tech from Jon B, I would recommend the ASR over the Ram Pack version, it has quick pulls at the top of the shoulder straps, as well as a double adjustable submarine straps, A great feature for quick adjustment while in the seat, with the added benefit if being able to be loosened long enough to tuck the crotch pad and straps under the front seat. Available in a bunch of custom colors. I got mine in black with blue stitching and blue pulls... just enough blue IMHO.

By the way, I spent a half hour on the phone with Curt the president of Team Tech, a really great guy to talk to. He also was the one who decided where to put the pass throughs in the new seats........ so they'd be the logical choice.


To answer your install question. You can do it yourself if you're a little handy, and have a t50 Torx socket. I spent about 3 hours on my first attempt, but most of that was fiddling with the adjustments at the connection points, as I didn't really have a baseline to start from. Pretty sure I could knock out a harness in an hour or so, including removing the seat to make it easier on myself.

I spoke with Curt today, he recommended the ram pack but I think I will go with the ASR. How does the blue stitching and straps go with the car? I was thinking of going with orange stitching and blue straps due to the original orange stitching that's in my Ta 2.0

The blue stitching is only noticeable when up close, with the blue pulls really standing out. My car has white stitching so the blue worked OK. With yours, I'd do the orange stitching as well. Not sure about the pulls though...... Orange would match the interior, but blue would match the car, tough choice.

Same question here. I have the team tech harness and had them installed but I just installed the lowering kit and there is no way to get the submarine strap bar back in it's loaction on the rear seat bolts. It is just way too tight back there. As a side note the side clearance is really bad between the eye bolt and the tunnel mounted strap once you get the lowering kit installed.

I'm about to give it a whirl once my new submarine straps show up... I have the passenger side done already, but might have to get creative on the drivers side..... I had to get a friend with long skinny arms to mount the lowering kit, as my arms wouldn't fit behind the seat.

I have the drivers side sub bar sitting on the bench looking at it. Is it too high? With the seat lowered is it making contact with the seat? Or is it just too tight for you to try to install it? The design of the bar has it raised up off of the seat bracket almost an inch. The raised part on the uprights could be cut off, and 1/2" washers could be rewelded onto the bar to bolt onto the seat bracket(I'd use an actual welder friend if I do this).
EDIT: just looked at the passenger side, and the bar has to be that high to clear the carpet which is higher than where the seat bolts. ... hope its just really hard to install, not impossible.......

On the lap belts, you want to use the bolt in option, instead of the eye bolts, and just leave them in.... you'll have to leave the sub straps in anyway, seeing as it will be mission impossible, just about, to get the sub strap bar in with the lowering kit. I should have an update hopefully in a few days. Anything's possible, I hope!

Schroth are the best harnesses. The only ones I would ever use in my race car or street car. Worth the money

I have Teamtech mostly cause I was able to customize them. I even sent them the material I wanted to use. Very nice people there. I wouldn't hesitate to run Schroths, OMP's, Sabelts, or Sparcos though.

We have always used TeamTech harnesses, I know there are other brands, but Curt and the gang at TeamTech are very Viper oriented and always willing to work with us on specific needs or changes, like when we changed the rear bar from the original (too low) configuration. Or when trouble with the lap snap ins so they adjusted the Viper spec harnesses for us. The Viper spec harness is a bit more money than the ASR, but it was designed for the Viper and has always worked very well for our clients.

Also a big thing as mentioned is how many colors and options for colors they can offer to totally make your Viper unique!

Another update guys. After a long conversation with Curt, and after I sent him a page from the SnakeOyl seat drop kit, we have come up with a plan. The parts are on their way, and I should be able to test hopefully with in a week.

He sells a 30 degree bend bolt in harness bracket, similar to the lap belt bolt on bracket, but bent 30 degrees after the bolt point. The plan is to bolt these directly to the rear seat bolt studs(on top of the SnakeOyl bracket). I have attached a rough picture of what it should look like. This wouldn't be an option with the factory seat bracket, as it is not flat. This is also the one guaranteed strong mounting place available. The part I'm referring to is part# 2503 and page 7 of the Team Tech catalog in this link:

His one concern was that the material in the seat tray needed to be smooth, so sanding might be necessary if yours are not perfectly smooth(mine is rough). I am also going to install grommet edging around the opening, similar to what I suggested to a member here to use for his hood vent holes, to ensure no chafing occurs even from regular use. So I'm updating this thread as well. The bolt in brackets were a no go in place of the submarine bar with the lowering kit, because their mounting position would be 90 degrees to pull in the even of an impact. I ended up settling on mounting them to the factory support bar already on the seat frame. I talked to Curt about my possible plan C, and he mentioned that this was even considered as an original option, but they would have had to test it for strength, hopefully I'll never have to test it......

But on the plus side, both myself, and the seat that the sub straps are bolted to are still being held in place by the lap and shoulder belts...... anyway, they're in!
