I've been on this forum a while, and I can honestly say that I've never heard anyone suggest that the Viper have an auto transmission option of some sort. This is the kind of innovative thinking we need around here!

I've been toying with the idea of running a Emco Sequential in my new ACR. Here's the reply I got from them.

I asked if I could drive it on the street and how long would it last before being rebuilt.

The transmission will with stand well over 24hrs of 100% flat out, slick tires, big brakes racing such as Daytona or LeMans before inspection. In customer cars such as yours driven on the track and some street we have customers over 48hrs before inspection and magnaflux. With this inspection schedule you should expect to see 100 hrs. before a full tear down and oil seal and O-rings replaced. Abuse can shorten the intervals.
It drives and operates very well on the street. We have almost 60 custom gear ratios to select from so gearing to your needs is not a problem. The attached install drawing is the direct replacement for your car. It comes complete as shown. If you plan on using and programming a no lift up-shift
system we can supply the shift lever with a strain gauge sensor for that application.
Cost is $24,750 w/strain gauge shifter. $23,250 w/out. a 50% deposit is needed to start and right now we can ship in 2 weeks or less.
    Best Regards

    Great responses so far...

I was hoping for factory, if not only for complete and integrated design (read paddle shifters, and trans all tied in to the now omnipresent nannies on the Gen V) but also for longevity - because obviously the factory would do the necessary R&D and testing to insure a very reasonable warranty period and our heroes in engineering would also design in a huge buffer for abuse. Consider how awesome vipers are, and how we can torment them on street and track, put them away wet, and they are ready the next day for more...Best car on the planet!

(which reminds me, i need to wash mine ahem)

But this would also be a great opportunity for SRT/Viper to partner with Emco, or another manufacturer of equal experience and to come up with the solution. I for one would be faster on track (and street, snort snort) with the F1 type trans...and again to

    LEFT FOOT BRAKING IS COOL.

I think this is the best shot for a street driven OEM or aftermarket solution. They are not selling it over the counter yet.

    now you're talkin' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(not to dis EMCO - i don't care whom, but Ralph needs to make some phone calls...)
Let me add - when Ferrari is slow around the track with their F1 trans, then i'll shut up.

...hmmm. ya know what? After reading the above links...i'm wondering if Ralph hasn't already made that phone call ?????? Read closely this:
"The design intent is to preserve existing vehicle packaging space for multiple OEMs –"
this is getting better by the minute.

I have been thinking about an aftermarket solution for this for a while. It appears that sequential boxes have too frequent of a rebuild schedule to really work well on the street. I may have found a unique solution with a normal maintenance schedule. Buy a dog-ring conversion for the existing tranny from Pfitzner and then use this shifter http://www.s1sequential.com/t56-sequential-shifter/ with a strain gauge for no lift shifts. It'll still be expensive, but it should provide instant, no lift shifts and be bulletproof without having to be rebuilt every year. And obviously it will fit perfectly.

Keep finding this sort of thing and I'm going to run out of excuses for not getting going on a buy.

I could be mistaken, but when I looked into that about 2 years ago it did not fit the Gen 4 or 5. Good for Gen 3 or older.

Darn. You're right. Perhaps they could make one to fit. That shifter looks like a pretty clean piece.

I don't believe Ralph has anything to do with the Viper anymore. You'd have to speak with
someone in this club that is in the know, to know what is going on..Try some Racers, speak with
    Ben Keating, Riley, ect...

I believe there are a couple of threads from vendors on the VOA that are putting together a package for 8 sp autos...
