Throw in the VE or MSC suspension changes and I don't see why it wouldn't be livable.

The "ACR" out of the box without sound deadening may not be the most livable, but a GT with the ACR package will be dope.

Agreed, and doesn't the 2016 have multiple adjustable shocks from inside the cockpit? Whereas the Gen 4 has to be re-adjusted manually. That would say to me that the 2016 is more steetable than earlier versions.

The old ACR (and yes ACR-X) are a slight upgrade over stock Viper.

The New ACR is a serious track rat. It's not built for the street. It's just not. I know I will most likely track my car maybe 1-2 a year? Maybe... So I'm thinking that the TA might be better for me.

Really appreciate the personal attacks though.

PS. Vettes are for old bald men who insist on wearing a baseball cap in a convertible / targa car.
I agree that a TA would probably be better for most people..... especially for only one or two track days a year.

I'm also willing to bet that the new ACR will be very similar in character to the last gen. Noisy, and harsh riding, just like a normal Viper, just more so, lol. The last Gen Viper came with the splitter in the hatch too, that's the only way it could technically be sold as street legal, although most guys, my friends included, installed it right away and left it on.

I'm only guessing here, same as most, that the car will come with a higher ride height than it was presented to the journalists on a racetrack, with the suspension set up for some kind of compliance. In this configuration, I think the car will be more of a test of your tolerance, than the cars street ability. I'm sure it will drive anywhere a normal Viper will, just being stiffer and noisier while doing it.

But then again, it's only my opinion, which is different than most. I think my SRT rides great, and transmits minimal road noise and harshness, even on Alberta's frost heaved highways. But then again I also rock a 70 Charger and a Hummer H1. The Charger has the suspension of a 40 year old truck, and the Hummer with it's 2 and a 1/4 ton suspension rides like a cement mixer on its best day, and I drive that bitch 3000 miles round trip to Moab every September......

Also, for just one or two track days a year, you could also just grab a brand new SRT like I did. I have no trouble showing everyone in my advanced group the tail lights with it............. save for 2 guys, one is a Gen 4 ACR with a pro driver, and another is a race prepped C6 Z06 with a very established driver as well. Could I be faster in a TA? Sure, but my lowly base model gives all the Porches , Ferraris, et al, fits as it is.

Mother of Dodge. It's hard to imagine how much more radical an X could be over the ACR Extreme

In watching this video with him going from a standing start in the pits, commentating and carrying a passenger you have to wonder what his lap time was.. Looking at the green guardrail 2:50 or give or take seems like a fair guess no?

That was likely a parade lap. Chris Winkler ran a 1:56.7 in the Ultimate Track Car Challenge, and I have heard rumors that they've gone even faster than that.

That was not a parade lap by any means. LOL. Just watch it.

I agree with this. Anyone who says the gen V ACR isn't streetable should drive a gen 1 lol

It'll be quite the risk to drive an ACR with Extreme aero installed to and from the track according to Brian Makse, so unfortunately it won't be an option for some track rats

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't realize they ran a different course for this test.

Yea I have no experience with VIR but noticed different times being mentioned in different articles over the years and realized they would have to be for the different courses.

Most track rats have trailers as they are running slicks anyways.

I think it was definitely a good lap put down by Andy. He even mentions it in the video at the end saying "that's a good lap at VIR and a whole lot of fun"...he was driving the piss out of that thing. I think it's hard to tell in video sometimes but if you watch his hands, he's pushing pretty hard.

I found this a few nights ago and found it interesting. I'm not that familiar with VIR so I can't comment to the validity of what he is saying. This was published before Andy posted his full lap video.

Jack Baruth seems to disagree. This is his observation of the lap time put down by Andy. I'm not sure if I agree with it though.

    By Jack Baruth

Just watched the video. It’s fascinating, but you’ll notice three things:

    0. They chose to do it from the end of pit lane instead of from the roll, to prevent making it possible to take a laptime.
    1. They cut the video off at least three seconds off before Andy crosses the finish line…
    2. and they edit it to skip a few hundred feet, moving the car from BEFORE the paddock garages at the 3:00 mark to 200 feet AFTER the paddock garages at the 3:01 mark. Basically the video “disappears” seven seconds from the lap.

So Andy basically ran a 3:06 from a dig which makes me feel not entirely bad about my laps.

This new ACR is everything I was hoping for and I can't wait to see the laptimes it puts down!! I think my favorite review so far was the one on wired.com!! Must read!

  19. #219
Some good catches by Jack. I recall something about 20 people they had out not allowed to post track times and to stay off the curbs. I'd have to think Andy Lally would put down a better time to Jack since he's making comparisons. But really don't care too much, Andy's video was fn hilarious to watch.

I posted Jacks video a few pages back and it looked like the same car as Andy, however I had no idea who was posting the vids on YouTube and what they were for. I did time the lap out to about 3 mins based on the line at the end of the pits.

Was that 1:56 time run while he was also entertaining a passenger, making commentary etc? If so I would think he could go faster in the car by himself and no distractions right? I wouldn't be surprised to hear it ultimately can run a faster than 1:56 time.

No, this was run in the UTCC on Friday morning. Not during the press day

Are you running the 09 ACR with the stock diff?

Wonder if there is more to this Jack calling out Andy?

    http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...-on-the-limit/

While our Jack Baruth was at VIR driving the car, our friends (and my former employer) Jalopnik sent pro-racer Andy Lally to give them a full review of the ACR on the limit. And while Baruth drove it at the limit for us, Lally's run was on camera.

Here's his fast lap. He was totally on it.
