Viper is Detroit’s supercar and entirely American in character. It’s loud, imposing, and makes no apologies, but in ACR spec, it’s going to make its owners the superheroes of their local track days. With boundless acceleration, abundant grip, and authentic race car looks and performance, this is the kind of car that will impress the heck out of any enthusiast.

Tires are bespoke, ACR-only, ultra sticky, near slicks from Kumho, and they hang onto asphalt like plaid on a hipster. Their innate mechanical traction is one thing, but when speed is combined with aerodynamic downforce, this Viper grips unlike any road car I’ve ever driven – tuned Porsche 911 GT2 RSs and GT3 RSs included.

Going fast requires a few things of the driver: The car wants to be pointed straight when you’re hard on the brakes or the tail will wag, the shifter still needs to be strong armed into gear, and making meaningful downforce requires big speed.

Any idea why the stock looking front X brace, I thought the carbon fiber one was the hot set up. I also liked the red with the black, awesome car!!

Agree I'm surprised to see that their unless it's a stiffness issue.

With the tail still wagging under breaking and the damper technology they're using I would expect those types of responses from journalists to continue .

This tired old rehashed drivel made me not even want to read the article:

"The Dodge Viper is not a comfortable car. Livable, yes. The interior is covered in fine materials. But you still climb over a hot door sill to enter the tiny cabin. And the frequency range of the engine's noises seem specifically designed to cause headaches."

Why start off an article about a streetlegal race car like this??? I don't think I have ever seen this kind of deliberate attacks on Porsches similar offerings. I am positive the ACR will destroy its class competition yet they will continue to harp on subjective things to diminish it.

I was, however, surprised that it weighs 3400 lbs according to Autoblog. I was expecting it to be nearer the SRT's weight. Can't wait to see this thing in all black with the blood red drivers stripe....Just love that rear diffuser. The rear 3/4 view is just incredible.

This is what I was alluding to in my previous post. Some journalists don't like the Viper, period, no matter how good.

That's true... not necessarily good for sales, but bad-ass for overall perception...

I’ve raced in the now-defunct Viper Challenge series, and driven plenty of the old ACRs – they ceased production in 2010 – but my cut-parry-thrust ride with Winkler was the fastest I have ever been around a racetrack in a street-legal production car. He says this car is at least five seconds faster on the track than the last ACR. I think his estimate is conservative."

Waiting on performance times and who was driving. If a relatively novice turns great times, that says a lot for the car as well as awesome times for pro drivers.

Also waiting for the Future Jalopnik article review where they state, " how the Viper is just not as good as the Future whatever Vette on the track, complain about blah, blah, blah and finish up that the test car did not have as strong CCB brakes which if it did, would have lessened their impact into the tire wall off the track."
