    2 Questions

    1. The small black button on the hatch next to the keyhole does nothing. I removed the interior trim, and it appears that the rear bumper has to come off to access the switch. I don't want the dealer taking my car apart. What is it supposed to do?

    2. In my setting within Uconnect is a setting for passive entry? What does that do? I noticed that in either setting, I can actually lock my fob in the car using the other fob, or just hitting the lock button on the door and closing the door. My brand new SRT challenger doesnt work that way. If a fob is in the car, I cant lock the vehicle.

    Thanks!
    Alan

    1. Try pushing the black button and lifting the hatch at the same time. If not, hopefully someone else can answer.

    2. Passive Entry is where it AutoUnlocks without needing to unlock via the key fob. The fob just has to be close. I haven't tried locking my keys in the car yet so not sure there.

Yea, that button should open the hatch. If you hold it in a long time it'll set off the panic.

You can't lock the key fob in the car, just lust like other Chrysler/jeep vehicles, it'll beep 3 times and unlock.

Im not so worried about the button on my 14, but am concerned that the passive entry is not working. I changed the fob battery, and as I approach the car and press down on the door handle, the car does not unlock. Further, I can lock my fob in the car. I am wondering if someone can try theirs out

I have passive entry enabled. Will not lock fob in car.

Have you tried the other remote?

Yes, changed both batteries and both remotes will allow fob to be locked in car. Are you saying that you can also unlock the doors by just pushing the handle down with doors locked and fob in your pocket? Mine doesn't do that either. I wonder if that has something to do with rear button not working

    Yes, you have something wrong.

You should be able to just press down the door flap and the door, unlocks and opens. And when you lock the door with the fob inside and close the door it'll beep 3 times and unlock. So you have a problem or setting somewhere is off somehow.

Oh and I'd assume the 2 issues are connected, yes, since the button on the hatch is both a release and panic button.

Thanks, I guess it's a trip to the dealer.

Is it possible the the 2014 SRT model doesn't have this feature? I cant seem to find it in the owners manual as well.

I don't recall reading it in the manual for my 2013 GTS. All of the above comments are correct. I lock the car as I walk away, then, when I walk up to the car (with fob in pocket) I can just press the black button and the hatch will open, or press the door handle and it will open. If you have changed the batteries in your fobs then it would seem that you have a malfunction with your passive entry. The only thing I can think of is checking for a blown fuse, since clearly this is an electrical based function.

My 15 SRT has these features, never noticed them in the owners manual though.

pg. 185 2013 OM mentions it, but does not have a section about Passive Entry.

When I get out the drivers door I just press the door lock button. This locks the car when the door closes and I never have to reach into my pocket for the FOB buttons.

So, Im still confused weather I have passive entry or not. Going to the dealer Tuesday. Thanks.

  15. #15
I could be wrong but I think all '14s have passive entry. I've seen that the TA has it, which is a SRT with a pkg on it, and I saw an SRT model review and they talked about the passive entry. I don't see it on window stickers, but mine sure has it.

I notice you're in MD, me too, in Ellicott City. Hope to run into you sometime ... well, not literally. What dealer are you using?

if you turn passive locks off, that little button on the rear hatch will not work.

all Gen 5's have passive entry, otherwise you'd have to stick the key in and turn it. (which cannot be done)

If both fobs are near the car... you can lock one inside. That is by design. If you want to test the "don't lock key in car" function, make sure the second fob is quite far away from the car.

Also, leave the window down so you can grab the fob out of the car if it does lock...

A final point... if you get the three honks, it will eventually allow you to lock the keys in on the third round of honks. If you insist on locking your keys in the car, it will eventually allow you to.

    Hey Zybane,

That is a good idea. I never thought of using the door lock to avoid fumbling for the fob when I walk away from the car. Duh..... Nice!!!!!!! I'll be doing that from now on. Thanx

And you will know it's locked as the little red VTA lamp will be flashing... which is good, cause you can't check the door handle to see if it's locked (as it will re-unlock with the fob in range).

That is so awesome you posted this, because I just got back to the office from lunch and was trying to figure out how I was going to tell if it was locked. I was trying to hold the fob as far away from the car as possible while trying to open the door. Anyone watching must have thought I was a total idiot. The sad part was I couldn't hold it far away enough to prevent my entry. This car will make you do crazy things I love it!!

Did you go into the settings in the deck and enable passive entry?

Just noticed it was an option last night. Someone said the car has to be in the "run" and not "acc" position for changes to take eccect.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I'm sure that I have passive checked, and Im sure its not working including the black button on the hatch. Im off to the dealer on Tuesday and I'm using Century Dodge in Mt. Airy MD as they have stated that they have 2 viper techs. Their service manager informed me the other day that the parts for the door switch recall have not been released yet which is conflicting other info floating around. I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks.

Very interested in your experience with them as it goes. I've been there before, a bit obscure, but they're in my backyard, it'd be magical to have them be a decent option for service being like 10 mins away. Did they send their techs to gen5 training? I saw they had a gen5 for sale a little bit ago so maybe they did the buy-in, etc when they had to get the techs trained up. That would be nice.

Good luck with the issue, seems quirky.

I don't know if they are Gen V trained, but the electronics are used on all Product lines. Check out the Facebook page Clarksburg cars and coffee. We are having our second one this Sunday. I'll have both me new 2015 Srt challenger and Viper there. Drive down and hang for a bit.
