Header install - what needs to come off

Ive browsed a few of the exhaust threads and it appears that just about everyone removes one or both of the valve covers for the header install. Taking a look at the car they do not appear to be in the way at all. Why are people removing them for the install? and what is the absolute minimum that needs to come off

I also assume that the headers come out the bottom of the car.

The drivers side cover has to come off. Both manifolds come thru the top. Just take your time, it is like a puzzle. Some installers drop the manifolds down, but, you have to pull the starter. In some cases the installer also loosens the motor mounts, I did not have to. You also have to loosen the overflow bottle.
