Why are you asking if changing your oil viscosity will change your oil pressure? You are aware that pressure is resistance to flow, right? And that pressure is not an indication of more flow, which given a positive displacement pump flow is predetermined with the variable being how much hp is wasted pumping it? And that one other factor, bearing clearances as they wear, is the other resistance to determine pressure?
Sadly, many people think more oil pressure is better, and within a range of normal and expected pressure, that is not always the case.
I went from 10-30 Mobil (there is no 'e' on the end; mobiles are what babies play with over their cribs) to 0-40 and the oil pressure did not change. I did not expect it too nor did I want it to. I was updating to a more modern oil that was not available at the time my car was manufactured, so it was not recommended in the service manual and obviously was not a factory fill either.
thank you dave for the reply, but you did not answer the question(you would make a great politician though).
again, what is the normal oil pres for a 96gts according to the dashboard guage? 50? 55? 60?
1996 GTS the normal pressure varies when cold to hot, and with RPM. 65 is normal on cold startup, 35 at hot parking-lot idling. The rest is in-between. As D6666 so warmly pointed out, your running pressure should not vary with -40 or even -50 weight

thanks Jon, exactly the info i was looking for. also, what is the preferred filter now? mopar or wix? the wix one is supposed to be superior due to it being felt/cotton not paper.
Only use the Mopar VIPER filter. It is the only one custom made for the Viper. There is a difference in the bypass part of the filter and the filter medium is the optimal for a Viper
Vipers have a tendency to bad oiling if you use aftermarket filters. So said SRT engineers at VOI 11. Dick Winkles was the engineer that designed the engine. He is the man to listen too.
If you use your car for perfromance very often buy a trap door oil pan kit from JonB and it WILL help extend the life of your bearings. You can drop your oil pan and install the trapdoor kit in a few hours.
