2014 GTS transformation - Plasti Dip Anodized Carbon Clone

Fell in love with the Viper a long time ago and as soon as I was able I got one, a 97 GTS. Drove it for a couple years and moved on but as soon as the Gen V was announced, I knew I had to have one. Was fortunate enough to get into a 2014 GTS this February and I have finally transformed it into my ideal version.

I am a fan of the Anodized Carbon edition so I tried to replicate the look using plasti dip - based on comparison with the real deal it looks dead on.

Here is the car as it was when I picked it up

    And the process begins

Sills, hinge covers, and bumper prepped for spray

First shot of the finished color

    Car prepped

    2 coats in

    Final color

    First color in the sun

    Final shots

    Compared to Anodized Carbon TA

Damn, that is insane how well that matches. Nice job! How durable is the plastidip?

It is pretty durable, much like a wrap - one of the primary reasons I have dipped my last two cars is to preserve the paint and make the car easier to maintain.

Thanks for the kudos, it was a cheap mod to do haha

How many gallons of plasti-dip did that take?

Holy shit that's awesome great job. Plasti dip is great, the dash on my 94 is covered in it. What color did you use? Looks like graphite. Dipyourcar.com always seems to be the first with new colors.

The close up shot of the hood shows the subtle lines of the stripes. Man, you like the Anodized Carbon so much you gave your car Anodized Carbon stripes!

How come you didn't do the fuel door? Maybe gloss black like the other parts?

    Great job.

Nice job! Plastidip is awesome, I've used on multiple wheels sets and parts. It's also easy to repair, if you tag a curb for example you can spray touch up, amazing stuff. It's been great on our Jeeps thru the years.

Now you have a custom look and serious protection, win, win.

I used about 2 gallons of black and 2 gallons of clear. The color I used was Stormcloud pearl with a bit of mocha pearl mixed into the clear coats. I didn't do the fuel door or other details to try and retain an OEM look, plus dip is notoriously vulnerable to gas.

This stuff amazes me still. When you dipped your other cars and removed did it have any adverse affects?

    Wow.....

I had no idea you could turn out such high quality results, I thought that stuff was for spraying the wheels on your Honda.
    Well done!

I must agree, it looks good. I too was expecting the worst when I started, but wow. Your garage is tiny like mine, I can barely squeeze the car in....kudos to you for doing it at home!

Great job! Looks awesome, I am kind of blown away. Did you paint the stripes on before you Plastidipped the car? Looks like it did not have them at new.

I like the Mocha color around the exhaust. Now you just need to use that Mocha color on the rims, rear twilight panel, fuel door and panels behind the windows. If it does high temp, then mocha the brake calipers as well.

I give you tons of credit. I just don't have the balls to do this myself. Does Plastidip just pressure wash off and the factory paint is perfect underneath? I don't have any experience with the stuff.

Thanks for the kind words, I hope to go to the IL meetings more this summer so others can see it in person.

I haven't gotten to peel a full car yet, I traded my GTR in but the dealer didn't want me to peel it - they sold it dipped. Small things (sills and wheels) I have peeled are well protected without any adverse affects. It really is about preparation and technique and if you get that down you can turn out some great results.
