Farewell after over 15 great years in Vipers......

IMG_0601.jpgAfter over 15 years enjoying Vipers on and off track (boring off LOL) and meeting so many awesome members, owners, and racers through out the years, I decided to sell my ACR recently to a great friend and dedicated member of the VOA. I thought for many months on what to get to (replace) the Viper, and it had to be something very LOUD and with tons of power. Something that was not over the top price wise as retirement is just around the corner, but had to be very unique, fast, and fun. So I just bought a brand new Backdraft Cobra with a Keith Craft racing 427 with a huge 4 BBL. carb. and a dyno sheet of 585 HP and 582 Ft. Lbs. of torque. It only weighs 2400 lbs. and is scary fast. I never thought I would get more thumbs up or horn honks than my Vipers but this car takes the cake. I guess baby boomers like me who well remember ole Shelby and his 65 creation or kids who have only heard through their elders about the beast. It has been an enjoyable journey with the Vipers to say the least and you guys keep up the great work and carry the torch for me. Mark

Well congratulations Mark, nice ride. I did it the other way around and came from a Cobra to a Viper

They are scary fast but I now like my creature comforts (if that's possible in a Viper GTS with a stupid loud exhaust system and stiff suspension)

In the UK I would say "what are we doing on the weekend? lets go out in the car Sunday" Sunday would come around and while out driving car the rain would then start

I now cherish a car with a roof and A/C!

Note: If you do get caught out in a storm, those sun visors deflect the rain down the inside of the windscreen rendering the wipers useless (I know from my Le mans experiences)

Backdraft cars are fantastic! Would love to hear it if you ever make a video. Those cars sound insane with the side pipes and big cubes, big smiles for sure.

How do you find the seating position and the pedal box?

Wow... I can't believe you let that Bumble Bee ACR go but if you had to have a Cobra, the Backdrafts are certainly the most complete and refined tributes available. I'm sure you paid handsomely for that car based on the prices I have seen. There is still a lot to be said about the raw visceral nature of a Cobra.

The cobra is possibly the most beautyful car I've ever seen. Backdraft are very good option, I had one for a short time. I rather drive the viper though.

I wish one of the major car manufacturers, brought it back respecting the looks but with great engineering, windows and a good soft top.

Kits are nice but they just don't compare to what a full blown car manufacturer with racing pedigree and great engineers can offer. You will be back.

Cobras are a lot of fun. I was looking at a Cobra (Superformance) vs. the RT/10 that I eventually bought...both nice machines. The guy selling the Cobra tossed out a line that stayed with me. He said "my wife never liked riding in the Cobra". I mulled that one over, and realized that the Cobra would be more of an around-town fun car, whereas the Viper would be viable for longer road trips. Being able to lock a car and having A/C for the wife are good things. So I bought the RT/10 and have had a blast with it!

Gentry Motor Works was the other Cobra I looked at. I should have snapped that car up as they are very well made.

I'd still love to own a Cobra. Need to get my daughter through college first.
