First Viper, Have a few questions.

    Hey Guys,

Just purchased my first Viper, 2010 Roadster SSG. Love it so far!!! But I have a few questions that I searched for and couldn't find answers too.

    1) My car has a small bump on top of the passenger side front fender. Its almost like someone put their thumb on the inside of the fender and pushed out. I purchased the car from the original owner and know it has never been in any accidents or paint work. Has anyone seen this before? if so do you have a fix for it?

    2) Sometimes on start up after the car it reaches about 1300 rpm or so and then falls back to normal idle it stalls out. I then have to hit the unlock button on the key fob and restart. Any input on a fix would be great.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

    1. Any pics? I can't say that I've seen anything like what you are describing, but I'm having a hard time picturing exactly what you are talking about.

    2. This is a bit of an odd issue...any mods done to the car? Different intake, K&N panel filter, anything done to the intake tract? It can sometimes take a while for idle adaptives to figure themselves out after either a reflash or a long term battery disconnect, but I've never had mine actually die on me in the process. Does it do this every single time you try to start? Only on a cold start, or on warm starts too? Any codes being thrown? These cars are extremely sensitive to changes to the intake tract...even something as simple as removing the rain deflector in the hood can cause issues.

I have seen a similar sounding lump on the driver side fender...about an inch or two back from the edge. This was on a 2005 Copperhead Viper...brand new. On this particular car, they shimmed the fender screws on only the drivers side so that the hood hooked correct where it met that fender...with no shims on the passenger fender screws. The dude drove home from the dealer and saw this problem.

I went to his house and it was an obvious problem. On closer examination, the shins were thick washers on most of that fender's fasteners. One had been misplaced during assembly and lodged between the painted "skin" and the support buck causing the lump. We loosened all of those fasteners and then carefully teased the misplaced washer our, retightened the fasteners and noted that the "skin" had a smaller but persistent lump from the "memory" of the washer. A brief use of a hair dryer, and a couple of hours in the sun markedly reduced the lump...to where it would not be noticed by me. New owner hated this blemish, and promptly sold that particular Viper.

Sorry that this story is so long, but hopefully you will find something simple...a foreign object easily removed.

High idle and then stall? Try resetting your TPMS sensor.Could also be a sticky IAC but I don't know much about them on the Gen IV engine.

I know on my 05 SRT10 resetting the TPMS usually cures stuff like that.

I'm assuming you mean throttle position sensor (TPS) and not tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) - on the Gen 4 (and 5), there is no IAC...that is all done with the blades since it is drive by wire.

If it is doing something like this, I'd honestly expect a code to be thrown.

Here is a picture of the bump.

Steve M, the car is 100% stock with only 15,800 KM's.

Also no codes and the car runs great, besides the odd time it stalls after start-up.

What are the dimensions of the lump? Are you sure that there were no prior accidents?

My GEN IV SSG has the same "bump" on the driver side fender. Never thought much about it. "Build varience" is what i chalked it up to.

Is your car a Canadian Car as all 2008 to 2010 cars on start up, you have to hit the unlock or it will start up and then idle and quit. Tried to get the dealer to program mine out but said it could not be done. ONLY IN CANADA EH

Yeah it's a Canadian Car. Do you know why these cars are equipped that way?

It's not very big, only noticeable under the right light and viewing sight. I have a carproof (Canadian version of carfax) and looked over the car extensively for accident repair with nothing to be found.

Gary, before you start your car double tap the unlock button, canada has a unique immobilzer on our cars.

If you single tap the remote you have 30s to start the car, if not it will stall out.

So honestly... what is the point of that? That has got to be one of the most annoying things in the world every time you go to start your car...

It is very annoying as when you shut your car off and run in to your house or any where you have to hit the unlock button before starting the car. I was told by Herb that only the Canadian Cars received this extra theft detterent feature. But it is a pain. But you will get use to it
