Question Adding fog lights to an ACR

Last year I added OEM fog lights to my ACR. They are on all the time the car is running. I seem to recall something needing to be changed with the Star Scan so they function as normal. I really dont mind them being on all the time, as that's what the Canadian cars had for day time running lights IIRC, but I can't seem to find what I need to change with the Star Scan so the function like normal. Any input?

That's weird. Ive added OEM fog lights to 3 of my ACR's and all of them functioned perfect with just a install and plug them up.

ACRucrazy, ditto above, I've swapped out on both a G4 and a G2 ACR and they worked off the switch.

Best bet would be to get with Mark J at Woodhouse. Could be just a flash function or could be in the harness. Good luck!

Hrm. I appreciate the feedback. I recall reading a thread on the other forum about someone with an ACR who had a similar issue as I am having. This was before I installed mine so I was expecting it. I seem to recall that it was function that needed to be changed. Similar to when the Vipers went to Canada (which requires daytime running lights) the fog lights were basically turned on so they were on as DRLs. I've been having a hard time finding the topic on the other forum so figured I would ask here.

I will continue to search. Thanks!

According to our 2008 Owners Manual...ALL Canadian Vipers come with the DRL ON and cannot be disabled. All U.S. Vipers have system programmed to off...BUT, they can be reprogrammed to ON as DRL at a dealership.

So, do you have a Canadian Viper by any chance ??

The car was sold new at Baxter, it's a US Viper. Thanks for that bit of info. I am sure there is a way to shut them off, I have not been able to find the right menu in the StarScan. Really I don't mind that they are on. I kind of like it. However I get a lot of questions to why they are on all the time. Haha.

    Have you tried a wiTECH?

EDUT: Skip the wiTECH...just plugged my DRB III into our 08...go to Body interior then body computer then miscellaneous then DRL.

If this doesn't work, I would check VIN to be sure of intended market. While it has been several years now, I do remember hearing that an occasional low allotment (or no allotment) dealer was trying to get some unsold Canadian cars for sale here. As you said, I doubt this in your case...but, one never knows until one does all of the homework.

Steve has an interesting thought, though there are a couple of areas that could be covered. If you would send me a full length picture of that lovely young lady in front of your ACR I would be happy to look up your Vin number to see if it sheds any light on anything. You did mention that they are the OEM lights and were installed , and I guess one question to ask is who installed them?

I ordered the lights from a local dealer and installed them myself in the garage. They were plug and play. I'd have to think if the car was a Canadian ACR it wouldn't have the MPH speedometer.

Steve-Indy, I appreciate the idea, Also the window sticker states it was built specifically for *the name escapes me at the moment * at Baxter Chrysler Dodge Jeep etc. Like you said I doubt that is my case, but its good to know!

I bought my ACR from the same place and never had an issue. I had 2 new foglights from my aero coupe, and they worked just fine on my ACR. They are plug & play.

Good info, ACRcrazy...I wonder if the DRB III can simply reprogram your BCM...and, you would be good to go.

By the way, great photo...and, the car is not bad either. Sadly, I suspect Bill P. will be unable to concentrate on Vipers for the rest of the day now that you have met his request!!

Same as mine....is it possible that you don't know how to use the fog lite switch to turn them off? Or it is broken? ($89 from Viper PartsRack America)

The multi-function headlight stalk switch has an end-cap that PULLS OUTWARD .30 inches, from the Parking Light position to turn the lights ON and pops back inward to turn off.

    ??

Nope. I know how the fog lights work. My '08 had them. The ACR they are on as soon as the car is running. Weather the headlights or switch is turned on. Like DRLs.

ACRucrazy, I noticed that we have heard nothing from Bill P. I hope that he didn't keel over after you posted the photo that he requested. He is not quite as young as he used to be !! Time will tell.

Any progress on the fog light issue?

Chris, I got mine installed on Friday night, once I figured out why the HID's weren't firing(the kit has a universal plug, and I just had it plugged in the wrong way) my fogs turn on/off normal. Matt was thinking maybe a bad switch?
