2010 Viper ACR 'Ring time just moved down a place

Aventador LP 750-4 SV destroys the 'Ring under 7 minutes. (And sounds pretty amazing doing it)

That's pretty amazing. Congrats to Lamborghini.

To bad is not a stock car, the car has a full cage on it.

Crazy time. With it hitting over 200mph on the last stretch, I don't see how the Gen V ACR can hit that magic 7 minute mark being limited to 177.

Nurburgring is not as much about the straights as it is about corners. High speed corners where the Aero will make a huge difference. Consider the relatively short distance the Lambo actually got up to 200 mph.

Besides, these cars are not driven by machines so it will ultimately come down the driver and how comfortable he is with taking the car to its limits.

If we have a capable Viper driver that has had some seat time in the Extreme ACR, I think it will very possibly get under 7

...and hats off to Lamborghini....great job

You guys are asking a lot to go four seconds or more under the ACR-X time.

With Dodge claiming the new Kuhmo tire showing 1.5 sec improved lap times over previous race tires I have to wonder exactly what kind of times they are expecting out of short tracks and even the Ring.

And I don't see why not.... The ACR X time was done by an excellent driver (Kuno) but it was his first time on that track. On a regular lap, 4 sec is a lot but not on a 7 minutes lap...

Things to ponder are as follows:

ACR-X aero downforce versus Gen V ACR Extreme Aero
ACR-X weight vs Gen V ACR weight
ACR-X tires vs Gen V ACR tires (new Kumhos)
ACR-X brakes vs Gen V ACR (new CCBs)
ACR-X top speed vs Gen V ACR top speed (177 mph)

All in all, we can get a rough idea of how the Gen V ACR will improve upon the Gen 4 ACR.

That is a great accomplishment. It also serves to prove that our Viper's Pirelli PZero Corsa tires are legit. I've been saying I like these tires better than my Michelin Sport Cup 1 tires. The ACR Kumho tires should be even better.

Another good thing? This car is naturally aspirated, and doesn't have a hybrid battery that depletes after one lap. THAT is what matters.

Wow that was some great driving. Nice to see no forced induction no batteries just good old fashioned horsepower.

That car cornered / handled excellent on those tires.

    Great lap!

It will be really tough for the ACR to beat that time given the general lack of resources that the Viper gets to going on a 'Ring field trip, as opposed to all these fully funded factory backed efforts.

The Lambo has AWD and DCT and more power but the Viper has weight* and downforce as an advantage over the big bull.

I believe the mfg. quoted weight of the Lambos are without fluids and fuel, so while the 110lb weight savings of this edition Aventador puts the Lambo with the same range as the Viper on paper, I think the Viper is going to be almost 200lb. lighter on the scales.

Hopefully the Kumhos will give an added edge over the Corsas that Tim predicted.

Of course, almost being able to buy 3 base ACRs for the price of one LP750-4 SV is a bonus too. I hope FCA puts enough money for the Viper team to field an ACR Extreme, base ACR and a TA2.0 and give the drivers enough chances to learn the car and track but likely it'll be a shoestring budget with a 'one and done' kind of thing.

It won't happen with 645 HP. 700 HP would have had a better shot. No way it gets anything lower than a 7.02.

And that is the big take way from all of this. The Viper is competing with cars that are 2-3 times the cost. Just outstanding.

Epic ride by the Lambo....it almost looks like a video game.

Is the top speed for the ACR Extreme in fact 177 mph or is that the mph where you max out the downforce?

A lot of the cars performance is going to be based on the Kumhos and that is an unknown right now....because of the 3.55's I do think the 2016 ACR Extreme might just get under 7 minutes if the weather and temps were on our side. I'd guess just track temps could effect times plus or minus 5 seconds on a 12 mile course.

    .
Both. Downforce always increases with speed.

All the cars have to have a cage installed. Been that way for a long time. The old ZR 1 did, and so did the Lexus.
