Shearing sound in 6th gear (70-80mph)

When costing in 6th gear at approximately 70-80mph, my transmission makes a shearing sound when I press gently on the throttle. Sounds as if a rotating mass of metal came in contact with another piece of parallel metal. It's only in 6th gear

I have 3.55 gears, and last year the transmission tail shaft seal was replaced, trans and diff fluid changed as well. Thanks in advance

My '97 made more of a light gear whine sound only in 6th at a steady speed and at the speeds you described, and it went away when you lifted. How loud is what you're hearing?

Not terribly loud, I ignored it most of the time...But my friend driving along side me mentioned it the other day - so got me thinking maybe it's louder than what I hear on the inside. Mine goes away when I lift as well
