Visting Detroit: 2016 Dodge Viper ACR

So if your friends with me or follow me on anything social media wise, I kept a big secret to myself for about a week. Shortly after I got back from the Ohio VOA's Ultimate Viper Party, I was invited to go to CAAP for a special event at the plant. I couldn't pass it up but didn't have enough to get there. With some help from NJ VOA member Mike Sax, I was able to get to Detroit and spend a day in Viper heaven. I just finished writing up an article on the ACR and later I'll do one of the plant itself as well as Prefix AND Arrow Racing Engines. If you guys like it, I'll post some other pictures here that didn't make the cut in the article. Check it out.

I was hoping you'd get there after you called me at the track that day. Really glad you made it!

Tim specifically mentioned the number 4000, the website traffic for the 1-of-1 program was absurd too, something like 1 in 10 people that have used the configurator submit an order, but I heard '4000' and 'orders' mentioned in the same sentence since it launched last month. I saw at least a half dozen to a dozen completed custom colors at Prefix. I won't dive into those deets, makes it more of a surprise. I think you'll like them. There are some interesting ones to say the least.

I'll ask around, pretty sure I'm right but even I was stunned.

Maybe four thousand Viper GTC orders have been placed, means 4000 Viper combinations have been created on the configurator? Meaning 4000 cars have been "designed"? No way 4,000 cars have been ordered! LOL I wish, I really wish, to be wrong.

Yeah maybe, MAYBE it's created. I'm not a journalist just a photographer, I try do to remember everything by memory but I asked Mike and Mark so hopefully I'll get an answer between now and Monday unless Maurice chimes in.

But hey, 4000 sure sounds good doesn't it? And now the ACR is part of the program right off the bat. The folks at CAAP were all smiles. Maybe we can boost production from 3 to 12 or more a day now.

Now that would be OUTSTANDING! Given a 220 day work year and you're in the middle 2000 a year. That will keep the Viper in production forever.

By the by, that shot of the Viper in the rain outside the auto show makes you a LOT more than "just" a photographer IMO.

Wow great write-up! I'm really excited to see that thing on the track. 17" front brakes? That is insane...No wonder they had to go with a bigger front wheel. I wonder how much heavier it is than a regular SRT?

4,000 orders does seem far-fetched seeing as how they just said last week that they are building 3 per day. They said the plant can produce a maximum of 12 per day. 3 per day is 60 a month which is 720 a year (5 day work week). 12 per day is 240 a month which is 2880 per year... And those 4,000 orders were specifically 1 of 1 program cars. What about all the other "regular" Viper allocation?

They are going to have their hands full for the next few years if that is a true number. We're going to have a lot more Viper buddies too!

The 4,000 orders can't be correct. They've never even made 4,000 vipers in one year in viper history.

    Great pictures though!

Yeah, but those numbers would make the Viper community and the Viper program at Conner much stronger!
