    1997 Fuel Filler Tube Grommet

I'm looking to refresh my fuel door assembly and noticed that is more than just the 4 screws to remove it. There is a grommet attached to it as well as the filler tube. The Service Manual does not show the grommet separately. Looking for the correct grommet and any advice.

    Thanks

When I chromed mine, I kept the same grommet. It seemed to be in good shape. I remember having to wrestle the damn thing off. I had to keep turning and pulling and twisting.

Just make sure you put a bunch of painters tape all around the area so you don't scratch the paint when you're removing and reinstalling.

This thread my give you some more info.

Back in the old days when MGW sold Gen II replacement caps, it was recommended to use something to lubricate that grommet. Of product was detailer. It required patience, persistence, strong fingers. I did determine that it was nearly impossible to do in an unheated garage in the winter in a northern location...the solution was to place warm water in double zip lock lags for about 20 minutes...then, success. I have changed several, had no problems using the "detailer lube" method.

The grommet comes with the gas cap cover, thats why its not listed. You dont wanna know what Dodge wants for a new OE gas cap cover.

Thanks. Good idea on the heating and lubing of the grommet. One question. does the grommet just slip onto the filler neck?

Decided to tackle this remove and replace this morning. Painters tape to protect the paint, Adams Detail Spray as the rubber lube, on and off in 5 minutes. Thanks for the help. Thanks
