    Harness

    hi Guys,

    just getting into some track days - not going crazy but need something better then the stock seat belt. I tried searching for 5pt and 4pt but all the info seems a little better suited for the guys who do this all the time and 6pt harness.

    Just the basics here - remembering I will hit the track maybe 3 times a year - where can I get a "basic" 4 or 5 pt for track days.

    Another questions - will the seat belt chime keep going on? how do you get rid of it?

    I went down this exact same road... I only track 3-4 times a year, don't want to get all crazy with a harness.... but... at the end of the day you don't really save yourself any headache going with a 4 or 5 vs the 6.

    I went with the teamtech 6pt harness, which requires the seat crossmember bar that goes into the rear bolts that hold the driver seat into place. The viper is already set up with the screw holes for the lap belts and the shoulder belts.
    You will need four keywhole bolts, the rear bar, and the 6pt team tech harness. It's a small challenge to install but once you get the hang of it you can remove the belts in between track days no problem.

    Did I miss the year of your car? 1992-2002 are pinned for 4,5,6. 2003+ are pinned for 4 or 6.

    When OE Viper racing harnesses were under Fed recall model years 1998-2000, ONE company outside the dealers (who had none) was allowed to do warrantee replacement harnesses for Viper Owners: PartsRack!

    Gen 5 go with 6 point and the 4 eye bolt solution.

    In all my vipers I've used Partsrack and Team Tech. the pulls are correct from them. You will want to pull up in a viper not down on the lap belt.

    It's an easy install once you find the hole on the tunnel. It can be done without pulling the seat. I did pull the rear panel to slip under the center console to find the bolt hole but I'm not sure it was really required. An ice pick could work. When the day is over you can easily pull the belts, put the covers on the shoulder bolt holes and look stock OEM again.

    Makes a world of difference in comfort not holding yourself in place.

    After that...get a HANS. Overkill one might say. When everything is strapped tight but your head you won't think so in an impact. I know my necks not that strong.

    The tunnel side lap belt will really chew into the plastic on the seat hinges if you use an eyebolt, the seat will move easier and without damaging anything if you use a conventional bolt in attachment for it. TeamTech has actually been shipping the belts we sell this way, it's true that you cannot just snap that side out, but the belt can be easily tucked away when not in use.

    Have you guys installed the Teamtech harnesses in a Gen V car with the seat lowering kit?

    I was wondering how hard it would be to tuck away the side straps and the submarine straps with the seat on the floor. Also how much room is there to even run the submarine straps under the lowered seat? I know I'll have to yank the seat again to even try to install them, using a friend with small forearms again to just bolt the rear down.

    I actually had my TeamTech 6 pt sent back to TeamTech to have both the inboard and outboard attachments become conventional bolt in. I found that on the outboard side with the eye bolt I couldn't get the seat all the way back fully without a hassle. This is on a manual style TA seat, not sure how the power seats are. It takes less than five minutes to remove the bolts and take out the lap belts.

    For a first time install, removing the back panel is probably the easiest way to figure out where the bolt locations are. Once you've got it down, the passenger side can be found pretty easily with a pick.
