Its really hard to beat the sidewinder 2 for pricing, light weight, and overall looks.
Love CCW, but for the price , how can you pass up the deal on Sidewinders Jon is showcasing?
Is there any downfall to having to put a 3/8 spacer on to have the offset be correct on other Gen's?
I absolutely love the Sidewinder 2's but I'm not a fan of having to space them. Does this need to be done on all Gen's besides the Gen5?
I put the ipsco 5/16" on and it's pretty close, also used ipsco extended lug nuts that go inside the wheel to grab more threads. No problems here, although I wish they were anodized black.
you have to use spacers on gen 4s?
I have run spacers on various different vehicles without issue. The key is to get hubcentric and not just the cheapie universal 150 different ways spacers
You do not, but the Gen 5 front wheel is 1/2" wider, and that width was added to the outside. The front wheel will look flush with the fender, but the rear will appear a bit sunken in compared to the front, even though it is the same width/offset as a stock Gen 3/4 (if I'm not mistaken).
Depending on your budget, I carry about 10 brands that can work on a Viper. Sidewinder2 wheels are cool, but everyone has them, and they aren't Forgeline or HRE
You don't HAVE to run spacers on any Gen to use Gen 5 Wheels. Those who are more picky about the +20mm wider FRONT offset might choose to run our 5/16 or 6/16 Hub-Centric Billet spacers and long-neck lug nuts on the rear. Most observers would never notice, but your picky-quotient may vary.
I don't like to TRACK a car on slicks with spacers. It can add side-loads to the wheel bearings, but only slightly. But the long-neck lugs are essential so that you get plenty of thread-bite-turns on the OE wheel studs. Our lugs do this. MANY VIPER COMP COUPES run spacers.
I thought the same thing Steve until an automotive engineer informed me that my brake hats are essentially spacers. I do realize that the farther out we space the more the leverage, but so may racers use them that if correctly designed, I don't think they'll be a huge issue (maybe more wear to the bearings, etc). The key is to make sure you check the torque specs on a much more frequent basis.
Totally agree. The same thing applies with higher offset wheels. You are essentially applying more leverage but as long as your studs are of good quality and you have 7+ turns on the lugnuts, no biggie. On Vipers, this is also one of the few added advantages of having 6 lugs...more strength over the 5 lug alternative.
Exactly, no one worries about putting lower offset, wider wheels on the car, which would have the same increase in the bending moment applied to the wheel bearings. But people are afraid of spacers like no tomorrow.
Comp coupes run spacers all around, trust me, you'll be fine. Use ET nuts for the rear when you do a spacer, I run Jon's .450", same as the one off the comp coupes. I've road raced, dragged, and auto-x'd the car with no issues. A proper hubcentric spacer becomes an extension of the wheels mounting pad, nothing more.
