I believe they have more taxes than mentioned in the article. A 60% tax wouldn't be enough to raise the price to $480k. In addition, China has high import taxes, not export taxes.

I believe Brazil is another country like that where a 458 costs like triple what it costs here in the US.

A vendor of mine has a 458 among other things and paid close to $1mm for it. Also, anything over 3.0 liters (might be 3.5) is taxed at a compounded rate. by the time you get up to 8 etc. I can image it's pretty damn expensive.

Edit. I realize the article says 4 liters but I'm 95% sure that's incorrect. There's a reason the big body benz and beamers are almost always 730s and S300s. Even those go for around $200k.

Last time I looked a Gen 5 viper in Brazil was around $1mm USD.

Not surprising and I wondered when a Viper would show up in China. I go to China and Hong Kong often and there are lots of sports cars there (especially in Hong Kong!!). There are Lambo, Ferarri, MCClaren, etc. dealerships in Shanghai and 4 years ago I read in the China Daily that a base Jeep was $60,000 US...never mind the license plate issues...try $20K for a license plate...but good luck there as the traffic in China has become just horrible...but I still would love to see a few Vipers roaming the streets!

Sadly, the car will never be driven on the streets.
