    Track temps with PCM

I pulled my post from another thread and started a new thread…..

Maybe I should start another tread…but this may be a weak point for the track. I am starting to track my car and the water temp is hitting 240 and triggering the warning light. I have a hunch that the PCM is making the car run hotter. I may run the car wight eh stock ECU next month for a baseline comparison. The car only had 700 miles on it so I am not on it hard at all. For example, I run 2:42's in my sleep in a 290 HP VW Golf R and I was running 2:38s in the car.

So what temps do you guys see?

I've tracked my '14 TA a few times with the stock PCM, and also recently with the Arrow PCM. No difference in max temps that I've found. Here is a screen shot from my last trip, grabbed from the video of my fastest lap that day. Temps were in the mid-80s outside, this lap was about 20 minutes into the session. Car is 100% stock other than the PCM that I recently added.

    210 coolant
    233 oil
    89 IAT

G4 w/venom ecu, real hot for me is 220. Last weekend in Spring Mountain NV, air temps 90. Track layout had 3 area's where you run in 2nd gear figured that's why I got to 220.

240 is real hot, Leave a/c on by accident? Draft another car for some time? Track have lot's of 2nd gear pulls? Those are all situations where I run hot. I don't think the ECU is contributing but who knows??

Doesn't the ECU disconnect the A/C Compressor Clutch under full load?

Just wondering if anyone know the temp of the stock thermostat used in the GEN V?

OK…day 2. first off all…thanks to Mark….the car out of the box hauled ass. Nothing passed me today. I was running down the new GT3s, Mclarens, etc.

The ambit temperatue was 77 today and less humid. I hit 220 water, 200 oil and the IAT was 86….20 degrees less that the 106 I was seeing yesterday. I was short shifting at 5k and there are 2 areas with long (506 second) 2nd gear pulls. The fluid was up to snuff and the radiator was clear. As the car breaks in I will monitor it. My next session is in May.

I also have not had any issue with the new ECU at the track and haven't heard of any issues from my customers at Viperexchange.

    Karl,

Glad I could help Saturday, always here for you, and what did I tell you about the MCS ;-) . There is not many miles on the car yet and with the added back pressure of the stock exhaust and the heat of the leaner running PCM may be a possible cause. I have reached out to a friend and will call you later today with any other ideas he may offer.

    Thanks,

Great. The car was great under braking….no wiggle. I have slight under steer that I may want to address with camber. (The 16,17,18 complex is a bitch on the left front.)

I am at a 5 pound differential front to rear (rears lower) and the rears are not rolling over at all…not nearly as much as the fronts. Temp-wise I was within 12 degrees between the inside edge, middle and outside edge.

Blue, Please confirm that your water temp was 20* HIGHER than your oil. Was this with temps stabilized? also can you can you share your HOT tire temps F & R ? Thank you. Allan

I ended up 36 F and 31 R cold. They heated up to 42 and 38 respectively. The rear showed no roll…not even close. The front was rolling over a bit. I am going to toe out the front a hair to deal with the long sweeping high speed curves at COTA. I forgot to write the temps down. I am confident that the rears were 128 outside and 142 inside. The fronts were about the same. The oil/water were consuming my attention.

Nope….it was the opposite. Water: 240, oil 266. The next day the water was: 222 and the oil was in the 240s. I am thinking of going to a 5/50 for the track. At those temps, isn't s 0/50 too thin?

You should be running 15/50 at the track
