    3.55 gears

Could someone please tell me (ballpark price) what it would cost (parts and installation) to go from a stock 3.07 to 3.55. I have a 98 rt/10. Thanks.

You might want to get ahold of Tom Sessions down near Wilmington ( I know that is a bit of a drive from Apex ), but he is quite likely the best Viper Tech in your State and he would be able to really good care of you. Just ask your fellow Carolinas Club members and I think you will find a genuine, high level of respect for Mr. Sessions!

I'm doing the same thing you are. Parts should be around $800 and then labor just guessing $250-$400

Ring/Pinion US made, hardened, install Parts INCLUDING speedo kit and service kit extras that others may not include right at $700. Labor 6.5-7 hours, and TOM SESSIONS works fair and fast.

The feeling you'll have when you accelerate as if you added 75HP ?: PRICELESS

Rear ends are one of the few things I will not tackle on a car. There is such a fine line between installing everything right and be able to set it up properly. I may have to look Tom up the next time he is around the area.

I agree about the feel of having the 3:55 gears. I may not be much faster, but it really tosses you back in the seat. I have about 20,000 miles on the set I got from Parts Rack and they are great.

2 Incarcerated governers: Illinois? Illinois has these TWO great places for gear installs: Bill Sampognaro/Flossmoor, and Dave Remmert at Roanoke SRT.

I will have to look into those.

Ryan is out now, so I have to change it back to one. But we did have two behind bars at the same time.

If you drove into a shop in a G4 and drove away later the same day, it should be about $1300 installed including oils. If you want to exchange/ship returning your G4 core for ours, it would be about $100 less + s/h/i. Or we can turn around YOUR core in 2 biz days.....leave your car on jackstands.

Good vendors in the "Viper World" will all be around this estimate. Gears are a 'technical' challenge, and meshed on 3 different axis to thousandths of an inch. Blow it, and get WHINE, then not easy to correct. ....... NOT a DIY process.....

Id rather have a trans-gear-differential specialist do the work than any generic 'Viper Tech'. Most 4x4 shops can do it with eyes closed....... GEN 4 CAN BE ESPECIALLY TRICKY !!!!! Know your installer.

Unless you are here in Portland, we have UNITRAX do all our setups/installs. All our cores and stock sit there. We have partnered on over 250 so far. CA folks can drive in and NO sales tax! We ship worldwide.

Got the 3.55 setup from JonB (and indirectly Unitrax) for my 2003 with the late model parts for extra strength. Love it and it has made the car much more fun to drive. The hard part was waiting for 500 miles of break-in time to go by. I did change the oil again after a few thousand miles. You won't regret the change. The only alternative is to change gears in the transmission. Since the rear end is a weak link in the early cars, it was a no brainer for me but the late model cars have stronger parts already.

From what I have read, with the blower on your car you will enjoy a smaller gear than a NA set up. Blower cars always seem to want to pull taller gears, but I do know how much fun the seats of the pants reasoning means.

I run 20's in the rear. Gears would bring me back to the range I should be.

I have paid $1200 on a c5 corvette (10 years ago) and $1500 on a gen 2 viper about 8 years ago (Tators). That includes parts and labor. And my old gear set back.

You can sell a stock 3.07 pumpkin for $500 and a different ratio other than 3.07 for $800-$900 if you wait for the right buyer. (Just an option instead of replacing the actual gears) (Replacing the whole pumpkin can be done in about an hour and a half.
