Gen 5 Vbox Data 60-130 mph times

At that drag strip rental we had in January, I had my Vbox logging each run in my 2014 Viper TA. Many other car forums like to compare 60-130 mph times, to indicate highway acceleration without traction issues. We had pretty awful traction issues that day at the track, especially on the 1-2 shift. Unfortunately for the Gen 5 Viper, this 60 mph is right at the top of 1st gear, so the shift time and wheel spin going into 2nd can sometimes delay the 60-130 time.

This series of runs will illustrate how timing the 1-2 shift and having no spin will affect these 60-130 mph times.

    60-130 mph 7.82 seconds (3 shifts)

    60-130 mph 7.80 seconds (3 shifts)

    60-130 mph 7.80 seconds (3 shifts)

    60-130 mph 7.78 seconds (3 shifts)

    60-130 mph 7.32!! seconds (2 shifts)

As you can see, the very last one was different. I made the 1-2 shift before 60 mph, which allowed me to cleanly accelerate from 60 mph without having to shift or having the resulting tire spin to slow my time down. That last run was also powershifting (no lifting throttle) and the 1/4-mile trap speed indicated 132 mph on the Vbox. Pretty accurate for that day, I went 131 on the timeslip. http://nineballgarage.com/2015/01/dr...ellcat-vs-zr1/

Anyways, these cars are FAST compared to several other cars, especially in that 60-130 range. Some other comparison data:

    2014 Porsche 911 TT PDK 60-130: 8.49, 8.42, and 8.59
    2015 Corvette Z06 A8 60-130: 8.30, 8.48, and 8.37
    http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/...0-150-mph.html

    Others examples found:
    7.0 - Ferrari Enzo
    7.2 - Mercedes SLR McLaren
    7.2 - Porsche 997 GT2, 1-shift
    7.3 - Porsche Carrera GT
    7.3 - Ferrari Enzo
    7.8 - Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, 2-shifts
    7.8 - Lamborghini LP640, stock, 2-shifts
    7.8 - Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06, 2-shifts

And, here is what my 2006 Viper usually runs, mid-4s. Haha

Very cool! 7.32 is stout for a stock car.

Great data and really interesting on the short shift to second. You mentioned this was done in January , and Houston notwithstanding , how cool was it? If cool it might be interesting to see if the scenario would hold up even in warmer conditions where wheelspin would be less of an issue? Just wondering, though I am a big proponent that carrying the car to redline in every gear is not always the fastest.

100% stock, on Michelin tires. The track was more like an ice rink that day.

Bill, here is the data from that day. The car is usually faster when carried out to max red line, but when measuring 60-130 mph runs the added shift and the resulting wheelspin did skew the numbers here. I'd suggest those who want to achieve good 60-130 results just start from 2nd gear at around 40 mph and floor it.

I realllly dig the McLarens. All of them. Have you tested your Gallardo? I wonder how close the Viper is to that car.

VIA MoTEC log our 2014 TA did 60-130MPH in 6.135 seconds on our low boost pass at the Georgia wannagofast half mile.

We will be getting a Vbox sport in the near future so we can verify all times

how fast did it go in the 1/2?

I will be testing my Arrow PCM only Viper GT in the coming weeks with a VBOX. See if we can top the 7.3

Tony can I borrow your VBOX one day for some pulls? Would love to see what my car does 60-130.

    mine @ 6500DA was 9.1 , 100% bone stock. was pretty bad.

I will be giving it another shot soon. As the weather will be in the 70's @ night.

So start in 2nd at 40mph seems to net the best result?

Did a searched today for a comparison to see how slow my stock 14 GTS is and ended up in this thread that's 4 years old lol. Managed an 8.51 starting out in second gear. While she feels fast, I know shifting is everything with these vipers to get better times. Guess the times actually aren't good consided todays standards :-( IMG_7890.jpg

Timely thread revive. Interesting that Nine Ball was getting over 1 second better times. My Dragy arrived yesterday and I also plan on getting some baseline 60-130 numbers. I will update once I do.

DAs are super low right now in Dallas, so hopefully I will find some this weekend.

And on a separate note, this forum bug not allowing apostrophes is Fn killing me!

To add to the conversation, these are from last year's short Houston winter...

I did not lift when shifting on these two runs. Lifting added over half a second to these times no matter how fast I tried to execute the shift.

Interesting your time difference between your heads/tune. Do agree not lifting helps greatly. Don't like doing it but it seems like it takes forever to get into gear if you lift in the higher RPMs.
