Iowa - New owner and new member

Hi all - I've been reading the forums for months leading up to buying my car. I officially joined the forum and the VOA today. I have had a variety of toys over the years and still have a few others but I have said for years that if I could afford to buy any car I wanted it would be a Viper. So needless to say I'm pretty excited to FINALLY own one.

I bought a 2005 Red one with 35,000 miles on it. The dealer I bought it from doesn't really know crap about it or what's been done/not done to it. I've been over to Woodhouse and met Bill P and I've been e-mailing Mark J. over there too. Bill gave me the club info and I'm going to get the car over to Mark soon for a complete service, new tires and maybe a few other tweaks while he's at it. They are as good as I had read they would be....they really live up the reputation they have so that was nice to see. Bill really went out of his way to educate me on the cars and the differences.....and he still talks to me even though I bought mine somewhere else. Thanks Bill!

I live NE of Des Moines and bought the car in Eau Claire, Wi. I drove it the 5 hours home a few weeks ago and other than a few short test drives that was the first time I had really driven a Viper. After all the reading about the brute power of these cars I was pretty nervous at first but that didn't last long. It's really a very easily managed car to drive if you take it easy. Now with a little over 500 miles on it I've started to play around just a little with it and it's a blast. I need to burn up these crappy old tires before I go buy the new ones anyway right?? :-)

Maybe I'll see you around. If there's anyone else in the Des Moines or Marshalltown area give me shout and maybe we can get together. I plan to drive it to Karl Performance for their cars and coffee thing the morning of April 11th. Is anyone else here going?

Thanks for the welcomes. No problem Bruce....sorry it took me so long to get signed up after you sent me the links but I'm glad to be here finally. I'm not sure how many of the meetings I'll make it to. It's about 200 miles each way from my place to Omaha but I'll try to get over to a few of them at least. I look forward to meeting some other Viper owners and checking out the cars too.

Are there any other people in the group from my area?

Hey repiV, I'm in WDM and go to the Karl's Cars and Coffee pretty regularly. There's a couple of us that take the Vipers up there. Not sure if I'll be at the one in April, but definitely will have the car out by May and will be at that one (weather permitting!). Look forward to having another Viper around town!

Hi Blake - I look forward to getting together sometime. It's nice to know there are some other Viper guys around. But don't worry....I won't be cruising around too much in Des Moines so you'll still be special! . I live closer to Marshalltown.

A Viper cruising around ANYWHERE makes everything special!! 1, 4, or 20! A sight to behold in any number or frequency!

That's true. The car does seem to draw a lot of attention. I was putting gas in it on Saturday and a fellow all the way down at the other end of the line of pumps walks down and says "Man that's the coolest car I've ever seen in this town!! What is it?" Lmao.

Wait till you start noticing the "I'm not looking, I'm not looking!" look from passing Vette owners lol. Even better when the wive's head follows your car and he stares straight ahead

Girlfriend....yea I know I'm lucky....don't know what she's doin with an old dog like me!! LOL She can't drive a manual and I'm not sure this is the right car to teach her in. I came REALLY close to buying a real nice Lotus Elise when I was shopping and that's a car I could have easily taught her how to drive and turned her loose in. Maybe I'll buy her a Lotus.........Hmmmm.....need a bigger garage.....

Here's a couple pictures from this past Saturday when I had her out. This was the first time I had driven it with the top down. I put about 50 miles on it and found out that an empty 20 oz. mountain dew bottle will not stay in the seat with the top down at 70mph!!

It needs some white stripes. Or maybe black stripes to match the wheels and the interior?

I agree, I think black stripes would look better! You could also get the Viper logos for the sides and back in black as well. Just a though, might be too much.

Nice lookin' car, stripes available here if you want a pre-cut set tailored for the SRT10 http://theviperstore.com/Viper3_Prod...l_Graphics.htm

There are cheaper ones on ebay but you have to trim them yourself, and I'm guessing that will not be easy

As for colour, I like silver, grey or carbon
