Thread: Refresh

    Refresh

So with the 2015.5 Gen V refresh six months off or so (July/Aug), anyone have predictions of the changes coming?

With other SRT vehicles refresh often means interior changes, increased horsepower etc.

I am not versed well on Viper gens so I figured you guys would be the guys to ask.

I am guessing increased hp and a possible vert option (finally).

I don't think any more EPA approved HP are to be found, otherwise the packages now being offered would have more HP in them. The refresh is going to be the ACR, and maybe some fog lights for everyone else. I don't see the interior being fundamentally touched, it's already excellent as is.

ACR, maybe Targa, but nothing drastic.

It will be interesting to see where the Gen VI goes, as the entire team, Dick, Graham, Ralph are gone or have been replaced...

I hope all this restructuring isn't a sign of bad things to come for the Viper. It reminds me of a sports team that implodes after a bad year with high expectations.. Hmmmmm....

Just a tiny tad bit of info, there is nothing planned for the 'Mopar contingency' as far as debuts go this year at NYIAS, which kinda leaves me half bummed. GM seems to be headlining the show this year, Ford isn't involved with the schedule either (well okay Lincoln at best).

Roadster, roadster where are you roadster? I know your out there.

Lots of positive changes under Tims leadership, so I don't think anything bad. Perhaps we'll see real investment in the platform now?

Doubtful. With the new CAFE standards, it is very likely the V10 is a dead platform unless we can unseat this tyrannical government we have in place.

I do not see how under 1000 cars a year will have any impact on CAFE requirements for Dodge. Remember, they have to meet avg consumption goals and the viper is so limited I doubt it impacts at all.

I never said the V10 would live on as we have it now.

Nah, Ford did. Mark Fields was key speaker for the breakfast and they had a huge display up front. GM is key speaker this year and Chevrolet has two debut slots on both days, Cadillac is supposedly rolling out a completely new lineup.

Biggest surprise? McLaren is debuting a new car. Did not see that coming!

i bet they keep the V10 but add DOD or as some call it, cylinder deactivation. That will keep the EPA happy and we can always get an Off Road PCM to do a DOD delete.

Huh, well look at that. I heard it was pretty top secret to catch a glimpse of it this weekend. Interesting!

Oh and Chevrolet isn't debuting the Camaro here. That's being debuted at Belle Isle in May.

Edit: Just got invited to hang out with Scion tomorrow night. Thanks Toyota, 3 days off in NYC! LOL

I would think six piston brakes would begin to be an option or standard equipment

Agreed. I think it's a big disappointment that all of them are gone.

The V10 may die someday, or at least the 8.4L nature of it, but the Wrangler will have to get a lot more mileage before the Viper is the next lowest hanging fruit. As said otherwise on here, its corporate average fuel economy (that's what CAFE stands for). They sell so many 18 mpg combined Wranglers they can't hardly keep up with demand.

Why do you think there has been so much effort in increased mileage on the Ram 1500? Because it was the worst offender at the highest volumes. It has the biggest impact on CAFE, and the Viper likely doesn't even put a dent in at the second decimal place!

CAFE may not be a factor, but that doesn't mean EPA, CARB, and NHTSA certification and associated costs will have any less impact on weather or not the Viper V-10 will live or die

Ralph isn't gone in the least - SRT was folded under Dodge, he is still head of SRT as well as lead designer I thought.

As for changes - I have a feeling some smiles will be had come summer. Maybe some sunshine as well.

    Looking forward to it!
