Gen V PCM Comparison Thread

There's a lot of info floating around about different PCMs so I figured maybe we could consolidate this info in one thread as a guide for people looking to tune their Gen V's? I know HP Tuner allows you to reflash the factory PCM. But also read there were some bugs in older threads? Are they resolved?

And what's the difference between a Venom PCM, an Arrow PCM and a MOPAR PCM? Which are customizable? Do they retain complete OEM functionality? Can you datalog with any of them? Anyone of them retain warranty/untraceable?

Maybe I can create a matrix with this info and edit this thread as this info comes in.

"VENOM" - "V10 ENgine Only Module" - This is a stock GEN IV Module
"VENOM2" - Stock GENV - Updated hardware and software for GENV Features

"MOPAR" - Generally used term to cover any MOPAR shipped "Off-road" / "Race Only" PCMs
(There were PCMs for GEN II, GEN III, and GEN IV - Also for the Viper V10 Rams)

The MOPAR GEN IV PCM is part number P5155255

"ARROW" - Currently shipping "Stage 1" for GEN V cars via select dealers

The Part Number is 00050956AA for the 2013 or 2014, and I think the 2015 part just went live this week.

I just ordered an Arrow PCM. It is also referred to as a VENOM race controller. The Mopar PCM is for a gen 4.

In reality any alteration can affect the warranty if someone chooses to make an issue out of it even if it is not the cause. This is generally based on the dealer you work with, if they don't have or want and understanding of the Viper then they are not going to fight for you.

Are these all canned tunes or tuner softwares?

My post referred to "Canned" calibrations that come already flashed into hardware controllers.

I'm sure others can chime in on the HP Tuners options. That is a calibration modification system to allow reflashing your original controller.

The gen5 "Dodge" solution as posted above is the Arrow Venom Race Controller - that's what's on the box & install guide.

It is a "canned" tune but it adapts to all the data it collects for mods, so as you add mods the PCM reacts and optimizes the tune. It can be reflashed by Arrow for example if you move to the SledgeHammer supercharger option, etc.

HPTuners can come with a "canned" tune developed by them and quite trusted and effective, there are "issues" in the throttle table, this is where you've probably heard/read about the limp mode which ruined some folks' day at the COTA event, which sucked. This to my knowledge was easily cured by HP putting those tables back to stock.

One can debate which path to take all day, I can share my 2 cents. Before the Arrow I was going to buy the HP no question, so I have complete confidence in it. But with the Arrow working the throttle response correctly and being designed to optimize the tune with accumulated mods, by the gurus that design & build these engines, I was sold on it, especially at an MSRP of $1100.

I can say that the throttle difference after the Arrow install is completely amaze balls. I would never have thought it could improve that much, the Arrow would be my #1 recommended mod and bang for the buck, I can't say enough how much it improves the car. I know I'll be adjusting my style with the car tomorrow at my next track day due to how hard it hits now.

You can also just swap the Arrow & stock PCMs back & forth in 10 mins, so for me an OBDII emissions scan is also solved that way.

Just an opinion, but, I think most of the improved throttle feel comes from improved acceleration.

I tuned my car with HPT and did not touch the throttle table, yet it feels as though it is a mechanical throttle.

The 2015 Arrow PCM has 2 part numbers one for the .5 6th gear in the Non TA cars and one for the .63 6th gear in the TA versions.

Make sure you specify the correct one and even better send me your VIN when ordering the 15' so we insure the transmission in yours is the right one for the PCM.

BTW we have not change the pricing for the different 2015 PCM's ;-)

SCT does not work on the GenV.

There were rumors that they were working on a product for the Gen 4, but nothing ever came of it. HPT beat them to the punch, and I don't think they stand a chance of competing to be honest...the market is just so small, there's no way they'd recoup their development expense.

You'll have to define better - you'll get more flexibility to adjust parameters to your liking with HPTuners, but it requires either knowing what you are doing or the willingness to tinker with things to figure it out yourself. In other words, it isn't a plug and play option. The Mopar/Arrow is most definitely a plug and play option.

I have MOPAR PCM for my GEN IV and am looking forward to the Arrow reflash for it. Just waiting for the go ahead from Mark J....
