Anyone use a steam cleaner for engines and wheels etc? NOT a pressure washer.

My professional detailer uses a portable steam cleaner that uses distilled water only. The wheels and entire engine comes out spotless each time. So I just ordered one from Amazon rated very high to do it myself when needed, and its also great on grills, grout, etc. Anyone use these light weight machines and your thoughts? Of course will cover the alternator and pcm prior to use.

That's a good idea. I never thought of that. The distilled water is obviously vey important but it seems to me like it would work pretty well.

Saw one in use at Naples Motorsports on a Lamborghini. Was amazed how clean things got.

just be careful not to cook the rubber/plastic parts with the high heat.

Just had a reverse osmosis system put in for cleaning the toys. No spots.

Good one and I never thought of that, well maybe. LOL Anyway, I just used it to clean the large gas grill and it did a great job. Cooking grime came off well. Now for the engines and wheels. No cooking grime on there. Its a cool device and only 150.00

Curious for updates on how that steam interacts with all the rubber bits and electronics... Would cut down detailing costs dramatically if I could do it myself...

when using a water softner or r.o. system, be careful if you wash your toys and are surrounded by grass, it will kill the grass. I wash my cars in the driveway and very soon there after noticed the "soft water" was taking its toll on my yard, just fyi.
