Perhaps on a special edition?
They may break it , but it may also hurt sales from an insurance point of view . Keeping it artificially Low helps their take rate . fwiw

I heard Dodge had a hard enough time getting the HC past California right now. With tighter regs coming... kinda hard to see that happening from the factory...
Kenny Bell supposedly has a SC kit with 901hp from the Scat pak Challenger... if anyone breaks the 1k it'll be an aftermarket thing, not a big 3... IMO

The stricter regs are forcing the planet to go with hybrid technology. The Europeans are almost there but the Americans are refusing to jump on that bandwagon! Love it!
The technology exists -- the Ariel Atom has a 500 hp 3 liter V8. They achieve this by increasing the RPMs to 10,600.
The easiest way to increase HP is to increase RPMs. I'm not sure who actually makes the engine (I think it's Honda).
What allows formula one engines to red line high (17,000+ rpm) compared to that of production street cars (8,000 rpm)?
In terms of design, construction, materials, etc.
F1 engines have pneumatic valve springs. traditional coil springs quite literally can't respond fast enough at high engine speeds to shut the valve before ignition. This, along with short stroke, exotic alloys, short engine life expectancy and ultra high precision manufacturing allow for 17k+ rpm redlines.

Probably by combining internal combustion and electric. Tesla is now selling cars with 691 hp with electric only power.
No reason it can't be done today since Bugatti had 1200 with the Veyron SS. However, the 2016 Café regulations have removed the incentive to do this right now - everyone is focused on mileage. Maybe in the next 5-7 years but not in the next 3 years.
