hi, i got a mgw shifter and haven't put it on yet…. how does the orin. ball knob come off ? is there some hex nut below the leather boot?
does the mgw just fit over some oem thread on the shifter ?
tnx,

Scan 150720002.pdfScan 150720003.pdf There are 2 jam nuts hidden under the boot 3/4" and 5/8" if memory serves, my MGW came with install instructions. I will look for them and post if available.

well, i was able to easily take off the original shifter knob but mine did come with additional instruction which i think was meant for gen4 shifter shaft i think 'cause it didn't make any sense….
i was just able to thread the mgw on the gen5 shaft and luckily the locking nut was positioned such that the shift pattern on top aligned perfectly when i hand tightened it down….
The mgw did have a hex bolt toward the front and i did tighten it but didn't want to make it so tight that i destroy the thread of the oem shaft…. just in case i have to put on the oem ball shifter knob…
It's DEFINITELY shorter throw…. will drive it and see how i like it….

Hi James, I had the very same MGW knob on my Gen4 and I had the knob on with and then without the locknut. I prefer not using the locknut as it would allow me to turn the know down more, I then used locktite to secure the knob which never moved for the 3 years I had the car since the knob install.
hey bruce, long time no see…
anyway, i see what you are saying…if i remove the locknut, i could just thread the mgw all the way down, until the shaft hits the top of the shifter knob and use loctight to hold it in the right direction…. well, i think i got about half way to the top and it stopped due to the locknut hitting the bottom of the mgw and at that point, i was still about an inch lower in height than the oem ball and it felt pre good and my hand wasn't hitting anything in front/dash etc. so i left it at that but i see your point, i could get to be even a shorter shifter than where i had left it…. hum…
i may play with it more later….
tnx for your input,
btw ,are u thinking of the arrow cpm ? i'm thinking about it….
