    CCW racing wheels or OZ racing wheels, which one is better?

    Looking at maybe purchasing a set of racing wheels and there are a couple of adds up for either of these. CCW Aluminum wheels slightly used, says their straight no curb rash or problems. they are an 18 front 19 inch rear set up and he is asking 500 each rim. The others are OZ challenge HLT's 18 inch all around brand new for 481.00 fronts and 562.00 rears. they are matte black with white lettering. What are the pros and cons of each? Also...what tires would you go with? My intentions are to track the car maybe 3 times a year and the rest street.

    Big toss-up on those CCWs, given they're used. I love CCW product, and their prices are reasonable... why not check out what they've got new and compare apples to apples?

    The default answer is usually to go with the 18/18 combo because you'll have a larger selection of tires to choose from. However, if you're just doing open track days, I would choose the wheel that looks better to you on your car. If you go 18/19, a 345/30-19 rear tire in a Hoosier R6 is a great choice and will last a long time. Yes, the tire cost is a little higher but you're only tracking 3 times. I'd recommend finding scrubs vs. buying new anyway.

    If your buying these wheels for the track only, get the OZ 18's, more and cheaper tire availability, you need to also get a e-brake relocation kit. For track tires run Hoosier R-6's. (335X30X18 or 345X35X18). You didn't say how wide the front CCW's are, hopefully 11's. If your going to use them for street and track, go with the CCW's and use the latest Michelin street tire, not the cups.

    CCW is a better quality wheel than the OZ. CCW is a true, 100% forged product, machined out of a billet aluminum blank. The spokes are CNC machined/cut. The OZ wheels are rotary forged, and still have weaker cast aluminum spokes with a rotary forged barrel. They are light and cheap, but their fracture toughness doesn't compare to 6061-T6 billet aluminum found on the CCW wheels. I know which I'd prefer if I were to ever go off track or get into a minor accident. Forged wheels bend, and cast wheels can shatter and can come off of the car.

    So it seems , for my application and intention anyway,( 90% street use) that I should go with the CCW's. I do like the black with white lettering of the OZ's but, not to the expense of quality over looks. I mean, in the end I am really not going to be pushing 1000HP+ out of y car on the track and the OZ's should be able to handle more than the 800HP goal I have for my car but, if in case I decide to one day go more HP , the option is there already with the CCW's.

    You'll never break an OZ wheel unless you have some kind of impact.

    Just because a wheel is forged, doesn't mean it can't fail. I had two Forgeline wheel center sections crack on me this year.

    Regarding the white lettering, it's just cheapo vinyl stick on lettering.

    Love my OZ Wheels, but can't say anything about the CCWs as I've never had them! (Do like the look of them, though) There's a pic of them on my car if you're interested in the Gen II forum picture thread.

    Here's the OZ's next to the stock wheels and tires. I have Toyo R888 tires mounted and absolutely love them. Keep in mind that I don't track or drag my car, but the grip on the street is really good with the relatively stock Gen II I have.

    I have the CCW's, anodized centers, 18's all around.

    They are great for the track and street driving!

    Why does the black OZs cost 600$ more than the silver at tire rack?

    If you are getting these for the track go with the 18's all around. Way easier to find the 18" rear tires than 19" rears. More choices as well

    Makes sense...looks like the CCW's , in my case, is the way to go. OZ are the cheaper half brother. Just hope they make the CCW in black or matte black instead of aluminum finish.

    CCW is located about 1 hour from me in Daytona. They can do whatever color you want. If you are buying used ones then you can just have them powder coated.

    Black probably sells better than silver.

    I've always tracked mine with 18's all around on my Gen III. A viper race director told me that my car was designed to run on the factory 18,19's on the stock suspension. When braking, the rear wanting to kick out which that could have a major factor. The first two time I tracked my Viper with my stock wheels, it never did that until I switch to 18's all around. If you go 18's all around then you would have to change your suspension setup. This would suck if you switch back to 18,19's for street use. Just an advice I got.

    Good advice. Never thought of that really. I have a 19/20 set up right now. Maybe I should stick with the 18/19 set up then or even an 19/19 set up.

    I have a track alignment. It was aligned with 18/18's. I throw factory 18/19's with R6's on it for street driving. Never had an issue. Don't sweat it.
