I think this news will hurt the sales of the 2015 cars.

Why? not everyone wants an ACR, I certainly don't.

Now, if I was hot to trot on the TA2 I maybe thinking differently.

I think people should wait to see what the ACR will be. It could be a completely stripped track weapon that while can be driven on the road isn't livable on the road.

I'm sure we'll hear more about the details very soon - and hopefully the ACR differentiates itself by being almost unlivable on the street. That would keep the other cars moving off the lots, and would provide a true halo car for all the magazines to go crazy over. If something is truly built to not be street friendly, and is very "in your face" about it, then the stupid magazines can focus on what it is built to do - go fast around the track. I'm sick of all the gripes about these cars being uncivilized. That should be a point of praise, not a gripe.

The source is very suspect, good news if it's true.

I took the option of a replacement for my broken '14 in the form of one of the blue TA 2.0s, which sounded exactly like what I wanted. The ACR will be too hard edged for me to put a lot of miles on it, whereas the TA2 seems like it will be a car I can drive on the regular and get over curbs larger than 2"

I am not sure I would compare the 2.0 to the old aero coupe. The aero coupe was just a wing on a Viper as far as I know without any suspension goodies, etc. The TA and 2.0 TA are almost as good I hear as a Gen 4 ACR. I had a Gen 4 ACR and it was a bit much on the street due to the DOT pilot sport cups. At this point in my life, I would rather have a TA or TA 2.0. I think if an ACR does come out, it will be more of a take no prisoners machine than the GEN 4 and that will be perfect for track rats.

Man I love that thing! If I could get one with a radio and AC…. Maybe add the aero to my white TA.

MSRP is $106K, no options. Only choices are 3 colors and 2 wheels.

That might be possible. You would probably need to get some heavier shocks to handle all that increased downforce. You got a good base to start with. You could probably get yours to look just like it with a little work. Good luck.

How much better would the ACR be at the track, and how much worse on the street?

Any speculation on how much more the carbon brakes, larger wing and anything else ACR specific would add to the TA 2.0 price?

I would say the ACR will come in at @ 179,540. But what do I know.

Well, since you already bought a -15, I doubt that You will affect the sales at this point regardless.

I would agree that it could affect sales. Its not like there are a lot of these cars being sold, and it doesn't take many to affect sales numbers, so if it becomes clear that the ACR will be available for -16 people may hold of from what could be a -15 purchase otherwise. I doubt that many on this board that hold a voucher will blow it on a -15 if they know there is an ACR in the wings. This if that's the type of car they are wanting of course.

I didn't say it did. I said if it's a true hardcore ACR, lightened, super track tires on it like Treofeo R's, all the bad ass aero I think it could nip at 7 min flat with a great driver.

I wouldn't have bought one in 2016 no matter what, it simply doesn't appeal to me. Plenty have known it's on its way (possibly) and have already been waiting with their voucher in hand.

But again it comes down to livability. If it's a raw steel floor monster it may be very unpleasant on the street.

If I can afford one I will take one...no AC and No Radio is just fine by me. I am not commuting in it.

If it is truly going to be built it will have to have some compromises in terms of creature comforts like a radio and AC as optional equipment.
Just like the previous version did. The Gen IV ACR did pretty damn well with them.
Unless they just want it to be basically an ACR-X for the street in which case they'll sell maybe 20 of them.

Seeing as so many of the Viper faithful are tremendous TRACKOLOGISTS-if it does get built I hope it fulfills ALL their requirements-and MORE!!

  18. #93
I usually keep my radio off in my GTS. And I've never turned on the AC. So no difference there. But I bet GTS seats are a lot more comfy than ACR. Definitely interested. But any price tag over 120 k would be a huge fail.

You made a comment that it would not affect the -15's sales.....why are you talking about -16's now ?

There are plenty of buyers that don't want an ACR. That's not the point. The point is that if we know for sure that there will be one in -16, then many may hold off until it becomes available. If we are told that the ACR wont become a reality, then many would probably buy a -15 instead. That's how this could very well affect the sales in -15

As far as being raw, that is how many of the Gen V buyers perceive the previous generations. That's also the reason I am holding onto what I have. I was never after the plush offering of the V. If the new ACR is more raw then the current line up.....that will be even better

I agree with ViperJon that A/C and radio needs to be options. Track rats may not need these but if they want to sell more of these units they need to consider usability in the warmer states

I'm not sure if anyone also heard that loud boom but the word is the Corvette Forum just self-imploded and the only remains are some ZO6 parts that are strewn over a very large wasteland. The word on the street is that news of a new ACR caused this collapse, supposedly the members are now realizing they will never own most of the track records that the Viper does.

I think the focus may largely still be clearing '13 and '14 cars at the expense of '15 sales, which is why '15 production of some models was so delayed. They could be gearing up for a strong MY16 with stale inventory low, the C7 and Z06 hype over, the buzz of a returning ACR lighting up the performance world, TA 2.0 likely still getting rave reviews for the slightly less hard core, and I still wouldn't be surprised to see a vert released...perhaps alongside the ACR for maximum impact.

I expect the ACR will have to have equal creature comforts to the TA available as options, but with slightly harsher ride, as that's what the competition offers. It may use a different damper along with much stiffer spring rates to maintain acceptable ride quality, everyone else does it and they will need to as well I expect. The 991 GT3 improve ride quality dramatically over the 997, expanding its customer base well beyond track rats that tow their cars to the track. ACR will need to do this as well to be a success in the showroom and track.

I didn't post in reference to a TA. I posted a reply to ViperJon about liking my Gen IV Aero Coupe better then my Gen IV ACR. Had nothing to do with the track.

I spent the last 6 years driving on cups. Not a big deal.

Don't worry. There will be just as many poser ACR clones for the Gen V as there was for the Gen IV.
