As a new member, I just wanted to thank everyone for sharing so much valuable information. I purchased this 2008 vert about two months ago. Before this car was delivered I had never seen, let alone driven a Viper. What an amazing machine. I love this car. Everywhere I go people just stare. I'm very ocd when it comes to taking care of my equipment and all of the information you guys provide is invaluable. No major mods on this car. Just a K&N intake and borla exhaust. Borla is still in the box as I haven't installed it yet. Other mods are only cosmetic. Car is in like new condition with 14k miles. I put new super sports on it two days ago. Much better ride than old stock ps2. It runs perfect. Almost too perfect. When the temp is 45-55 the oil and water struggle to reach 180 when cruising down the road. Only when I get into stop and go traffic does it hover between 180-190. Is this normal? Next up is changing all fluids. I get on here constantly trying to learn as much as I can about these cars and their habits but haven't seen anything about a car running maybe too cool. I also noticed I have a mopar battery with 600 cca. From what I've read this battery won't last long. But who knows. When installing borla mufflers, does the car have to be on a lift? Can't I just swap out the mufflers with the car sitting on the ground? Thanks for any advice on this. If anyone is interested, I have 4 brand new still in the package never opened factory dodge TPMS that I will sell for $30 each shipped. It's a long story as to why I received two sets. Just trying to get some of my money back. They cost me a whole lot more than $30 each. Thanks again to everyone. Its nice to know if a problem arises I can get on here and get it resolved. As far as I know mine is the only viper in town so I'm all alone on this one.

If you have the factory airbox swap it out. The K&N Typhoon does nothing for you.

I have done the exhaust on jack stands before. IT SUCKS I recommend finding someone with a lift, and call Jon B for some high flow cats to work with the Borla. Your feet will be very happy with the cooler foot well temps.

Fluid changes since you don't know the history of the car its suggested that you go ahead and replace all and be done. Since a lot of us track these cars, I change every time the car comes off the track (Brake, Clutch, and Oil). You don't want to be needing good brakes leading into a turn and have no pedal pressure because your fluid has given out... We have all seen it at the track especially with the older cars. Also oil is cheap in my opinion compared to another engine so go ahead and get that taken care of. Also while you are under the car check your oil cooler lines. Seems that gen3 and gen 4 cars approaching the 10k-12k range develop a leak. Viper Specialty sells a package deal for both lines at a very reasonable price.

Regarding your temps on running the car its winter. Change the fluids and keep an eye on them during the spring when you get some real temps.

Also please head Jon B's warning and writeup on the E-Brake pad issues. You really don't want to eat up a set of rear rotors. Take a flashlight and inspect. You will find out soon enough if you are going to have an issue.

Good first post and a big welcome. As stated above the factory airbox is very efficient for the GENIV cars and after market ones may look nice but in most instances rob you of horsepower, not enough to notice, but they do. Same with the Oil Filter, factory in this case is better.

Welcome to the site. As you've noticed there is ALOT of great people and information on here. As far as exhaust goes its nice to have a lift but can just as easily be done without. Just a lot of kneeling, sitting and laying down. Don't ask me how I know this. LOL Get all your fluids changed as stated by venomous08. That way you know they are all good. Most of all, enjoy that car. Just always remember to respect the snake. It can bite.

It's done. I have registered. A friend of mine has a lift. I'll have to see if I can squeeze in some exhaust change/inspect time. I'll get in touch with John B about some high flow cats. Monday I put on new tires and took a close look at Ebrakes. Inside and out looked great with a ton of pad left. Oil change has been done with correct viper filter. I made sure of that. Thanks to you guys. I did have a situation recently where the lightning bolt flashed and the car went into limp mode. I got on it hard in first where it spun, then spun in second, then spun in third. I don't normally do that plus old PS2 were hard and slippery. It was almost like the car was trying to protect itself. I got home, shut the car off, and now its like it never happened. Car runs perfect. From what I've read that was normal. Still not real sure. I need to see if it stored a code. Here is what my CAI looks like. I'm not sure if it helps or not. I do like the way it looks. Now its back to Barrett-Jackson auction.

Yeah that's the typhoon. It's better to run the factory one but your preference. There are lots of different dyno runs back to back on the Alley I believe and it shows zero gains. Here is mine back in place. Previous owner had installed it and I swapped back as soon as I got the car home.

Glad you've joined HOBO. I too like the look of the Typhoon but I'm afraid of getting it soaked in the rain here in Oregon. Wet filter's no worky well. A lot of people like to video tape the "Final Minutes" of the old set of tires. It makes for some nice video.

I don't really have much more to offer other than a couple tips on the exhaust install. I have done a few installs on genIII's but it's the same idea. The side sills are pretty straight forward other than two small nuts that hold the upper part of the sill in place. One can be accessed inside the grills (or whatever they are called). The other is accessed behind the plastic wheel well piece. Kind of a pain in the butt to remove the wheel well pieces for one nut, but it is what it is. The other tip I have is to take your time lining up the exhaust tip and don't be surprised if it moves and grows a little after the initial install. Like other people said, you can do it on the ground, but it sucks. Even if you can get the car a foot or so off the ground will make a big difference.

He should also be able to hook up his scanner to check out my cel when it came on the other day. Still don't know what that was about. How much $ for the stock factory intake? Does the battery normally sit loosely in the compartment in the trunk? Wish I had a stock photo of a battery sitting in the trunk. Mine has a weird connector that looks aftermarket and I wanted to see what one looks like straight from the factory. How do you guys clean your motor? Is there a preferred method? I just didn't know if it was a good idea to get a lot of water under the hood in the engine compartment. Thanks for any tips.

Battery should be secure with no movement.

Let us know what the code is. I wouldn't be very surprised if it has something to do with ABS. You may have confused the heck out of the computer with so much wheel spin, especially if different rates on opposite wheels at the same time. Just my wild guess at how to connect the result to an action that may have initiated it.
