    BBG Headers, Heads and tune results are in!!!

    It's been an exciting night so far - and we're only halfway through it!! Next up on the dyno is the Heads, Cam and Headers combo!

    We just finished a nice safe (very conservative 91 Octane) tune on our customer's Heads and Headers car.

    Mods:
    BBG Shorty Headers
    BBG Custom Ported Heads
    BBG Custom Tune

    The initial (before any work was performed) dyno numbers were 544 RWHP and 510 lbs-ft of torque.

    The car made 607 RWHP and 582 lbs-ft of Torque. The car is an animal! There is a lot of power left on the table with a more aggressive tune and 93 Octane gasoline. I'll get a dyno chart posted sometime on Friday.

    Now, time to roll our Heads/Cam/Headers car up on the rollers to see what we can lay down. (Note: This car is a Gen IV but all work will net IDENTICAL results on a Gen V as the mechanics are the same and the tune will also be the same). This car features the exclusive BBG VVT delete kit with a very well-mannered custom-ground camshaft that really increases power across the mid-range as well as peak numbers. I will start a new thread for the Heads, Cam and Headers results in order to keep confusion to a minimum.

    Interested to see the cam results when they're ready. The head work appears to have increased maybe 10 hp and 20 ft lbs of tq over a header/tune combo.

    Curious why so low HP with ported heads. Seems like an expensive mod when same results are achieved without them.

    Seems like the cam could be the limiting factor here?

    Hopefully switching to 93 and more aggressive tuning picks up power. As of now it looks like

    10+/- hp and 20+/- tq over a bolt on car.

    This is no intake port matching? I would imagine that worth a little power as well.

    I know, different cars, different dynos, different days.

    But for comparison, FLATOUTs old ACR with American Racing headers and stock catback. Curious how Edwards graph looks under the curve. Maybe its fatter? Regardless I am sure the car is a beast!

    No intake port matching and there is definitely power still on the table. Also, note, this still a 10.2:1 compression ratio engine.

    With 93 octane and a bump to 11:1 these number would increase dramatically. This is a conservative build that can run year round on 91 octane in the mountains.

    How much timing is being commanded at peak torque and at higher RPMs?

    Would love to see 11:1 octane on 93. I would think 15-20 left on the table easily.

    Steve, no more than 19 degrees at PEAK... Very. Conservative. Zero KR.

    Mid 20's at peak tq??? That is conservative for this engine? Shit, I was running mid 20's for max advance on my old bolt on/cam'ed LS3. Mid 20's at peak tq "seems" aggressive as hell to me.

    Were the heads flow benched?

    No disrespect but something doesn't appear right. There are headers and tune cars making that power. Add the extra cost of the headers and heads Im scratching my head, hoping this isnt the best we can do.

    I responded incorrectly (I fixed the original post). Numbers at peak are no higher than 19 degs. The highest torque numbers before and after peak are no more than mid 20s.

    It took a lot of testing to get the fattest curve possible with the increased airflow of these ported heads.

    That's more like it from my experience. Hope 93oct yields more power.

    Agree, we saw 650SAE on a Gen IV with heads all the boltons, ARH Headers, no cats, on MS109.

    Ya the results on the cammed car are what interest me. The bolt on gen 4 and 5 cars making 600 ish are all over the place.

    Yep. 600-620 seems to be the bolton limit (no heads) as there are numerous IV & Vs runnin around like that.
    Several ported head/bolt on IVs making 620-640ish.

    Would love to see a higher CR & cam car on the rollers. Better yet, would love to finally see NAs trapping over 140.

    Gentlemen,

    We're very satisfied with our initial stage(1) 91 octane tune @ 607HP / 582TRQ, on the road it pulls real good. We finished up this vehicle for a Viper track days event at Button Willows, Ca that we're co-sponosoring this weekend and will be debuting along with our cam'd out G4 ACR. We'll be re-mapping our 93 octane tunes next week upon return.

    Points I'd like to make are that this G5 runs perfect with no cel's, no limp mode. Our client's biggest concerns were a perfect running vehicle and top notch workmanship on his brand new 2014'. Now he can go break-in the engine and put some miles on his beast!

    Can you provide more detail on the cammed ACR and quit teasing us?
