It's always about the government with some of you isn't it? This "end of the V8" bullshit talk has come back over and over again, every time that dreaded guvment tries to make our air cleaner. People having been saying this BS since the 80's, yet V8s are still here. If you actually knew that the EPA mandates an AVERAGE mpg for a automakers entire fleet, not individual cars. This means that so long as the entire company's product line can average about 25...or 30....or even 50 mpg then it doesn't matter what the individual cars produce. This leaves room for a few big displacement engines amoung many smaller, fuel sipping engines.
Adding turbos and more, smaller engine options are all tactics to improve the AVERAGE fleet MPG rating, we should be thankful for them as they protect our big gas guzzlers.
