2015 Snake Pit Shoot Out on February 22nd

We all know the weather is pretty yucky in February so we have an alternative event planned out for everyone. Ya'll ready to hit the gun range and practice your shooting skills? We hope so because the Houston Viper Club is having its 2015 Snake Pit Shootout on Sunday, February 22nd at the Athena Gun Club located in the Beltway 8 and I-10 West area from 10a-12n. After that we will be heading across the freeway to Pappadeaux for lunch. We have arranged for the entire range just for our group. And the best thing is that you can shoot anything from a handgun to an assault rifle so please be sure to bring your favorite weapon to practice your aim with. Whether you are a beginner or and experienced marksman, this event has everything you need. For beginners, they do offer private instruction (for an additional cost) if you need it. Otherwise, the range is open!!! There are only 6 bays on this range, so we will be taking turns. Targets are included in our rental.

Don't own a gun? No problem, they have plenty of firearms for you to rent. You will have to pass a quick and simple proficiency test (dropping the magazine and slide & lock the chamber) before they will allow you to rent the gun.

The cost to join us at the range is $60 per person. Rentals and ammo are extra and you can pay for those when you get there. We couldn't get that included in our rental fee. But we did have them include the action simulator for our use for those not on the range. It is a giant video screen and they give you a real 9mm converted into a light gun with a CO2 cartridge and you run thru real life scenarios to escape from. Each simulator session runs about 5 min or so. Multiple people can do the simulator at once. With the amount of people we are planning on having we need to regulate the time so that everyone gets a chance. They also have a lounge area where people can sit and relax as well. See some extra guidelines/rules below.

After the range, we have arranged lunch at Pappadeaux located on the other side of the Beltway and I-10 (next to The Taste of Texas) with some reserved parking and a space for us to eat lunch. Lunch will be at 12:30 following the gun range event. Lunch is not included in the cost.

Some rules about the range:

• If you bring your own ammo, only brass casing ammo will be allowed. No steel or aluminum casing is going to be allowed on the range.

• If you bring your own weapon, it must be in a case when you bring it in the gun club.

• No holster draw on the range unless you get a certification. To do holster draw, you must pass a quick test but they charge $20 to do the test.

• Rentals- must pass a quick simple proficiency test (dropping the magazine and slide & lock the chamber) before they will allow you to rent the gun.
