    Shift knob options

Is there anyone making a decent knob for the Viper yet? I had the MGW gripper shifter in my Gen3, but even that was basically just a shorter version of the goofy 8-ball looking stock shifter. And MGW doesn't list anything for Vipers anymore. Not sure if you can still order from them by contacting them?

Looking for something that is designed with ergonomics in mind like this

If it really comes down to it I can probably just by a nice knob for another car, and have a stalk made by a millwright or machinist I know out of a rod of aluminum. But it sure would be easier to just buy something that already works.

I dont believe you can any "Viper" products from them anymore...some legal issue about the logos. I am sure they can still make a blank shifter of your liking though.

Here is the one I ran in my previous Vipers and absolutely LOVED it. Have a hard time giving 100% more than what MGW charged.

I have owned all three shifter knobs that MGW makes and this one is by far my favorite. No Viper logo on it any more, but really who cares. You are driving it, you know what it is already.

I ran that one in my last two Vettes but it went with the last one when I moved up to the Viper. Do you know for sure it will work in the GenV Vipers? If so, I may pick up another as I loved that thing!

I do like that race knob a lot better than the stock one. This is still available for the Viper?

To my knowledge yes. I called when I ordered it since I wanted the matte finish on ring. That was only a few months ago. Make sure they are clear on which exact model you want, there seems to be some confusion in their sales department.

I have the same MGW shifter that is in Space Truckin's photo in my Gen V just has the shift pattern in it and no Viper logo.

I prefer to buy direct from MGW, as it's cheaper than the Viper store, and MGW has been great with the last 4 knobs I've purchased from them. Just call them direct, and ask for the knob you want.

If you don't want to actually speak with someone, you can buy it from another vendor for an additional $50 or so here:

Hello, I have done that. Due to the powers that be, MGW is not offering "Viper" (licensing issues)

They don't sell with a logo (George told me that when I emailed him), but they obviously still make knobs that will fit on a Viper. It's their knobs on the Viperstore website link I posted. I got a shorty gripper knob for my Gen V in October, maybe now they only sell through viperstore?

I called MGW direct and was told that the last of the "Viper" shifter knobs were all sold to the Viperstore and that they would not be making any more after the last run. After contacting the Viperstore, and a bit of confusion, the knob was somehow shipped from MGW because Viperstore did not receive all of the inventory they purchased yet. Sounded somewhat fishy, and I had to pay the Viper tax but I got it and it looks and feels much better than stock.

It's amazing how something as simple as a shifter knob can change the feel of the car. I couldn't stand the round knob.

I got one of the last "Stryker" logo MGW Race Knobs. By far the best shifter handle I've owned, have had them in 4 cars now. They still sell them, but with just the typical 6-speed gate logo on top now. SRT badgered them for using the logo.

I couldn't care much less about the logo. A 6-speed pattern is fine by me. Looks like I will be calling MGW directly and ordering the race knob.

I really don't get why they pulled the whole Viper setting down? If they don't make logos anymore, they just had to update the pics on the site. Wonder how many sales they have missed out on because of this already?

MGW's car parts group isn't their primary business. It is just a hobby business, for the owner (George). They don't need to sell much, he just likes offering nice products for Vipers, since he is a fan of them.

Just got around to getting the new knob installed. For some odd reason I was concerned I wouldn't like it as well as I did on my Z06 but turns out I worried for nothing. Took it out for a few spirited runs and found the shifts to be extremely short and precise; this thing rocks in the Viper!!!

    George is a great guy.

I love my factory baseball knob though; lol.

    Here is my MGW setup

I've been using the factory knob with great luck, switched to this setup last night so we'll see how I like it. Looks great imo

So is the Gen5 shifter the same as the Gen3/4, just dressed up with a better looking shift boot?

Pretty sure it is different from what I have read. That's why you can't upgrade to the MGW made for the Gen4's. It's a different shape now.

Question to those using the MGW Race Know... can the knob be screwed down further than the OEM knob thus make the shift shorter?

Yes, it is a lot shorter than the OEM knob. You will actually want to raise it up a bit, from how far it can go down - otherwise your hand gets smashed between the knob and the console.
