I have tried 4 different knobs and have it narrowed down to these two.......The red button on the Tee Handle is hooked up to my NOS purge...But the Pistol grip feels a little better and shifts easier...they come with inserts that fit the Viper shifter shaft. 1/2x20...You can get either one in chrome, satin or black, got mine from. I'm lovin the favtory knob. Wouldn't mind something nice but so far couldn't find a better looking knob. I've been thinking a knob with stripes to match my car

Yep, nut on the shaft is a locking nut.

Does the trim ring around the shift boot just pry up and off with a trim tool? Just making sure before I go break something.

uh...i was able to just push the leather boot all the way down and loosened the oem ball by loosening the locking nut then placed the mgw knob on the shaft and after locking the mgw locking screw, just pulled the leather boot up again...

Negative...totally different mechanism. There isn't as much clearance in the Gen 5 tunnel for the shifter, hence why no aftermarket option exists for the Gen 5 shifter. You can change knobs all day long though...

Oh right on. Had to pull the whole boot trim ring off on the Gen3, just kind of assumed this would be the same. Thanks.

To add to what Steve said, in addition, the G5 is a billet shifter, the G4 is a stamping. When i installed the G4 trans in my car, I mounted the G5 shifter on the G4 trans. As Steve said, there is less clearance in the G5 tunnel, if you use a G4 trans in the G5, you must use the G5 shifter, the G4 shifter will hit the top of the tunnel.

Regrettably, MGW is no longer selling the race knob for the Viper.
I called them today to get one and was informed they no longer stock that item.

Do they not sell the shift knob period, or just the one with the Viper/SRT logo?

What are the options for GEN2 cars (if any?)? Do the GEN3/4/5 shift knobs work?

They should still be selling the version with the shift gates on top.

Looks like they have gotten out of the shift knob business altogether from their website. Glad I got my dildo shifter when they still had those.

That would be a good option. The feel of their product is excellent, far better than oem.

I wanted an old school Mopar pistol grip shifter for my Viper like I had back in the 70s and 80s in the Chargers and Dart. I searched everywhere with zero success so I decided to make my own. I designed a blank for the handle and bought a Hurst shifter and cut it down to accept the blank. Then took the blank and tig welded to the Hurst shifter. It all came together nicely and I even had it formed to the left about 15 degrees to fit the natural position of my hand when shifting. It feels like the good old days without the massive height.
