Congrats, you will be fine driving it home on the original tires, just take it easy. Pics!

I probably should have been more definitive with my last reply. How many miles are on the original tires? If they have plenty of tread I would not worry until I got it home. If they have a lot of miles and are old I would definitely replace them. Just use common sense. There are plenty of Viper out there running around on original tires that are older than that. Obviusly I would not do any spirited driving or high speed runs with the car until they have been replaced.
As far as tires, I think it is better to be safe than sorry. But that's IF you can find some to put on where you are picking it up. IMO, 5 years is on the far side of safe and usable life. That being said, people do it all the time. Be aware they will be HARD and therefore easy to bust loose on cold pavement. Resist the urge to push it on turns and things like that. You will probably be fine, but it would suck to bang up your brand new Viper up on the drive home. See if Dicount or another reputable tire shop has them or can have them in stock for you when you arrive. Or, get the Pirelli deal and have them sent to the owners house and see if he will help you get them to the tire shop.
You will probably be fine, just be careful as you should be with any new Viper. It will be tough to resist the urge to punch it but probably better to just be a little catious. As F1, said, if they have good tread it is probably not a big deal. I personally would drive it home and not worry. I would just be careful and replace them soon.
Congrats on your purchase!

I would check with JonB for pricing. I hear his deal cannot be beat.
Oh yeah, and Red is the color all other Vipers wish they were. This is a scientific fact.
Great choice, can't go wrong with a Gen IV. Better car mechanically in every way! Enjoy your new toy
Hi guys, I picked the car up yesterday and checked the tire code. They are from 2008 so that's no bueno. I called all the local tire shops and nobody had the rears. I'm taking it pretty slowly and driving carefully. They only have 7700 miles on them and the tread is good.
Here are a few pics from the dealer. I absolutely love the car, it doesn't have the classic look of the Gen 2 but the feel inside is still amazing. The power...well I haven't gotten on it that much except on an empty street or two but when I got around 4k the rear end started moving around.
Have about 700 miles to go...will probably post a few pics in the Gen 4 forum although I didn't take too many pics on the trip.

if you are looking to get new tires, VOA Members are getting direct pricing from Pirelli and you save nearly 700 bucks, all you have to do is join and still put 500+ dollars in your pocket.

Nice man, congrats. Is she completely stock?
As far as I can see yes, completely stock.
Regarding Pirellis, I though I read that they suck for these cars. I'll look more. Still have 400 miles to go.
I like it it!
I love that gen 4s are dropping does anyone think about selling theres for one?
I actually sold my Gen 4 and kept my 96 GTS. I just didn't find the Gen 4 had that raw muscle car feel that the Gen 2 has. Both in looks and in performance. Yes its more refined and yes technology is upgraded but, that in itself means nothing when your just cruising around town. Its about how you feel in what your in. I feel better in my Gen 2. Everytime it was cruise time, I didn't have the drive to grab the 08. Maybe its just me, I don't know.
congrats, I got my first Viper from that dealer
Thanks slither, I guess my gen2 a keeper.
You know....as much as I appreciate all Vipers as they all do have character of their own, the Gen 2 will always have that raw originality that the rest will never have. In my opinion of course. The Gen 3 and Gen 4 cars I think took a different turn that Chrysler thought would make the car , lets just say for argument purposes, indifferent.
You have to change something sometime and they thought that was the answer. Nothing wrong with that as those Gens especially the Gen 4 took the car to different heights in mechanical and technology. Even with the dramatic difference in performance between the Gen 2 and Gen 4, the styling of the Gen 2 and the raw nature and of course the option to Fi the car via the pcm, kept it in peoples hands over purchasing a Gen 4. Other than the track rats and the ACR version, most chose to keep their Gen 2's.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Gen 4 is quite the vehicle as I owned both at the same time and unfortunately as I quoted earlier, I chose to take my Gen 2 out for the drives when I had the option.
Each to their own.
I have to agree with you on this one slitherv10, the Gen II is just a special car to me and despite the fact that all Vipers are special none of them compare to a Gen II IMHO. The GTS just has a body style and road presence that no other car can duplicate. They broke the mold when they made the Gen II Vipers.
I must agree also, I'm having a hard time letting to of my Gen II even for a Gen V. Even though I like Gen III's and Gen IV's they just don't do as much for me as a Gen II or a Gen I for that matter. I purchased my first Gen II in 2003 after the Gen III's came out. I must admit after waiting for the Gen III to come out I disappointed in the looks. At the time I was lucky enough to find a new left over Gen II.
I agree! I would have never traded in my Gen II for anything. The ACR was about the only thing I considered, and even after my trade I was missing the GenII. I have to say because I track the ACR just was making more sense for me.
If I can afford it someday I will get another GenII!
Great looking Viper, congrats! The six-spokes are a fantastic looking wheel.
