Optima Yellow top Battery

I bought a new battery approx 3 years ago, yellow top Optima thru the club. Never have had a issue with it till recently. I had a New Kenwood Head unit installed and speaker up grade. Had it in the garage for a couple of weeks with a tender and when I tried to start it the battery was dead. Jump started it took it for a ride. Plugged tender back in and now dead again. I don't know if Radio installer ran battery down or its a fluke battery just died? What are members recommending for a replacement?

Get a new battery, Sears Platinum (AGM) battery, or Sears Gold. I have had disappointing results with Yellow and Red Optima batteries. I do not purchase those any more.

Optima batteries are not what they used to be. I would go with a Deka made battery and/or DieHard AGM. I've gone with the DieHard and it's been awesome. Went with one on my Charger as well. 97K mile daily driver.

I've had bad luck with Optima. I'd recommend Odeyssey which is essentially the same as the Sears Platinum since it's manufactured by Odeyssey. (can't go wrong with either one)

I know it's old school but man, I have never known anyone to have a single problem with a Sears Die Hard. In any vehicle and that includes unltra heavy duty vehicles. I don't know which came first, the movie Die Hard or the battery DieHard but they are both frikkin awesome. Though, in your Gen II, you may not want Sears to install it. Since you gotta take off that rear tire and such. But usually the dealership can get you one or you can bring it over to them if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

If you got 3 years out of an optima, call the Vatican and get them starting the process of confirming it as a miracle. Lots of people on here with lots of terrible stuff to say about optima's. When they did that deal a few years ago with the old club they sold a lot of batteries but there were also a lot of pissed off purchasers.

My Mopar group 78 battery is from november 2008 and still performing well. I drive the car from march till November (not many miles though) and don't use a battery tender in this period. In December I remove it from the car and store it in my basement. During the 3 months of winter break I connect a charger from time to time (I don't leave it on the charger for more than a few days). Not saying you should buy Mopar, just wanted to share my experience ��

Well, I would try to recharge it first since it is a deep cycle battery if you have a battery charger that supports charging an AGM battery. I am assuming that you are outside the 3 year free replacement warranty period if it doesn't take a charge? Also, how long did you leave the tender on? It is not really a good device to charge a deeply discharged battery.

mine is going 4 years now and no problems,,,,,I do have it on a tender every night. Drive the car 6 months a year. I may have been lucky as well. I f you put a lot of extras on the car and splice here and add there, I am sure it may add to the batteries problems. Make sure there are no draws when off and you should be fine with any battery as long as you keep them on tenders after your ride.
