    Battery Issue HELP!!

    Hello,

I'm encountering a strange issue with error code "P1628 sensor voltage reference 2 erratic"
my battery gets derained quickly within a week if I don't drive the car, I've sat inside it with the engine off to notice any abnormalities and I keep hearing a strange buzzing sound from behind the steeringwheel/dashboard that won't go off unless I hit the ignition.
I keep jump-starting and that sucks.

I'd appreciate any help as I just bought the car and I live outside the states.

    Regards,

Did u check for a bad ground? Maybe it got a bad cell from sitting? I'd replace the battery, install a pig tail and plug into a tender until it's solved to avoid constant job Starts until the issue is properly diagnosed. These have deep cycle batteries and should keep good charge for at least one week without being plugged in. Keep us updated.

Energized relay? Some circuit not "timing out" as designed?

See dealer ASAP...hook up to wiTECH and try to identify issue.

May need to do an Ignition Off Draw (IOD) test...going fuse by fuse.

An example of utilizing caution when purchasing a left over that mightve been sitting. You might want the "deal"

Replacing the battery would be my first attempt to fix it, especially since you can't just take it to a dealer being outside the U.S. Your battery shouldn't be draining that fast, I don't see a tender as the solution, only a bandaid on the real problem. My car sat for a month before I realized I had forgot to put it in hibernation mode. It fired right up, I let everything get up to temp and for the alternator to charge the battery for a few minutes, and then put it in hibernation mode where it will sit for the next 3-4 months. I fully expect for things to be fine when I go to start it next spring, I didn't have a single issue last year doing the same thing with my previous '13.

So - either your battery is bad or you have an electrical issue somewhere that needs to be resolved. But the idea that it's simply normal for these cars to kill batteries is false.

Replacing the tires shouldnt be necessary. They should be good for five years. Swap the battery and all should be good. Get a DIEHARD Platinum series or equivelant for your car and you should be good to go.

If you're hearing a buzzing sound from behind the dash with the engine off, and key out, there's a problem. I'm not an expert on the electrical systems of these cars, but they do have some time delay built into a few circuits to allow for the car to be shut down, driver exits, and then go into battery save mode if necessary. If one of these circuits is still energized, it will certainly drain your battery (and a new battery if you don't fix this before then). Without a dealer nearby, this will be a tough one to sort out - how hard would it be for you to get it to a dealer so they can do some troubleshooting?

Since I missed the location part in the original post, I'll modify my advice to include buying your own wiTECH system through Dodge Tech Authority.

Agree with changing battery as I always do this within a few months of purchasing a later Gen Viper.

    The buzzing worries me !!

A new guy, with ONE total post, may have posted in the wrong forum.

The Year Matters........... are we sure this is a Gen 5?

If so I suspect an ignition wiring-button-accessory power START fault.....

If the battery has been discharged multiple times, there is no discussion, it must be replaced.

It is a Gen 5 - he made a post on the "other site" about acquiring the car.

I recieved the car with a dead battery, hibernation didn't hold it with this drainage issue 3 months in the container overseas. The trunk didn't even open using the key and I had to jump-open it from the fuse box.
I replaced it with a similar battery and all was well but after keeping it parked for one week the voltage dropped to 10s and I had to jump-start it. I noticed the buzzing sound and now thanks to your input guys I did some search and began to understand more about troubleshooting it.
The concern is I don't have a trustworthy dodge dealer here, let alone a Viper one! I believe it is a circuit relay which doesn't shut off unless the doors are opened i.e. dashboard is lit.
I turned off all functions, checked all fuses are intact. Heck I just drove it for 1 hr without nameplates
I guess next week I'll try to visit some dealer or I'll do the IOD fuse test by myself but hopefully that won't damage the computer?
appreciate your help guys thanks a bunch.
Oh and the tires are fine and the oil too, I just had to fill it 0.5L.

Can someone please send a pic of his fuse box so that I compare with mine?

I have to register my car with nameplates before I get it to local dealer lol! Will do it soon. The dealer we have doesn't even sell Vipers as a flagship car I don't recall the last time they offered Viper for sale and whatever numbers we got in the country are all imports. I had a discussion earlier today with one electrical technician overthere and he mentioned that circuit relay is a usuall problem for chargers and other Dodge vehicle. Sounded like he knew how to troubleshoot which circuit I'll see within few days if I'm gonna take my baby over there

The WiTech without srt Web Access will not help you. SRT indirectly charges dealers for the specific codes.

SADVIPER, the quick answer is YES on buying a wiTECH. I use mine on our Gen IV Vipers, Chrysler 300, and Jeep...noting I live only 3 miles from a Viper friendly, good dealer.

Call me if you like for an overview of my 5+ years of wiTECH ownership. 317-402-9013

Jack B, I am not certain what you mean about the wiTECH since I can use mine off line for a nearly infinite number of diagnostic activities. Of course, it does require a yearly subscription fee which I gladly pay as I get full tech support from wiTECH. Admittedly, I do not have the need to flash modules as I have a good dealer and Tech to perform said activities.

Actually, my older version software has been quite handy as the newer version could not program a newly instslled MOPAR PCM as of last summer when a couple of members needed this process.
