    Timing chain replacement

    Sorry if the title is misleading but hear me out. I did a search and find the majority of responses saying no need to replace the timing chain on these pushrods engines. I had the oil pan off my 03 recently tracking down an oil leak. While I was under there I inspected my timing chain. By reaching up I could feel just under 1/2" of lateral movement in the middle of the chain on the slack side. It wasn't enough to jump timing (yet) but enough for me to make note to change it before it gets worse. My car has just under 60k miles and a basic Paxton kit. For anyone in the higher mileage and maybe added power, this might be something worth keeping an eye on.
    In any case, 03 is out of commission until I can get the slave cylinder/twin disc mess in order, plus I'm building a forged engine on the side.

    I had a timming chain BREAK on my 01 ACR and it was about 10kmi. In theory yes you should never have to replace it but the fact remains that the metal links do stretch over time. I wouldn't think it would need to be done until ATLEAST 100kmi but that may not be the case for you because of the Paxton setup.

    For the record, I've never heard of a viper timming chain to jump but its not out of the realm of possibility. I agree its a good idea to change it out as you have it apart anyway. Might be good to do a cam "while your in there".

    yeah normally its something that doesn't need to be replaced, but that said if i'm replacing the timing chain.. its getting a cam too
