Anybody know anything? I'm frothing at the mouth.
This has been a rumor for a little while now. It's been a while since I've preordered a brand new sports car paying retail price, but something like this just may motivate me enough.
Is this not the same article from Allpar posted several months ago?
If it is I apologize, I thought this was news.
Very exciting, now Viper owners can feel like Z06 owners after 4 laps!
I can't see it happening based on a conversation with SRT in the summer. They know the limitations of FI on cars that will be tracked, and their commitment to the Viper's track ability has been unwavering. I'm also sure they are watching the fallout from the Z06 heat soak issues. Maybe an SC will be an option for those with other interests but I still can't see it. But if by some miracle FI does become available, it likely wouldn't on their track models. Either way it's very unlikely that they will make an announcement until the last possible moment.

True statement but look at what they did for the hellcat as far as "Heat soak" they made sure it was able to run 20 minutes of track use without detuning and if you see some of the video it seem very important to SRT that was not an issue. My quick conversation with SRT this summer was they said they were late to the supercharger scene but like the outcome of the hellcat, and could not discuss future projects. Being the person I am, I said "well could we see it on other models say Viper" answer "we can't discuss future project" Smile who knows. My take is this, if they can make it work without any issues like heat soak, emissions, warranty ect then they will make it. For years Viper owner were never too concern with creature comfort, just do a search on "cruise control, my radio don't work" and see some of the replies. The Viper is now at a level were the fit and finish, material are very good. Now the only thing left is HP and it maybe easier to do it with a supercharger who knows. Just look at the buzz Nine ball video as created. I say win on Sundays sell on Mondays.
Something like that would definitely seal the deal for me.
I am not sure that Dodge will ultimately just look at what would satisfy the track rats as a HP increase like this would definitely sell cars. Especially if it was optional so those that care about track performance can opt for a NA set up
It would be interesting to run a poll about how many owners actually track their cars. I am not talking about just getting it out there for a one time deal to experience the car in that environment but how many would vote against a FI package because it will affect their cars on the track
I am getting at that Dodge needs to focus on what would better sales and I am not so sure that the track rats represents the bigger segment of the Viper owners/buyers.

You know how the SRT engineers always suprise us on the performance of the brand. I see the Supercharged cars as the sledgehammer to straight line performance and produce a small number of these cars and advertise to the straight line crowd to end any contreversy. If they aim for the 20 minutes of track time with a blown car great. You know we will see a lof of complainers especially magazines that it is not a track worthy car with heating issues and that is not what the Viper is about, It has always been a track monster. As long as the car is marketed correctly all is good.

Having a supercharger as an option like Hellcat would be a win win for sales and Track Rats. A Large Displacement Low Pressure Super Charger on a Viper would have less heat soak compared to Corvette ! I asked a member from SRT about a possible SuperCharger , they said "we can't talk about future product!" and smiled
I think it would be a game changer for sales. And as in the article if it retrofits past model year Vipers then better for R&D costs !
I agree. They offer Track pack setups with 2 piece rotors and TA packages for those that want a track-dedicated car. They offer matte paint jobs and luxury interior options for those wanting a high end exotic feel, I can't see how offering a supercharged OEM option for those that want pure straightline acceleration improvements would be a bad thing.
I would definitely pay big bucks for a factory supercharger kit / option. Agree with matt, I don't believe there is any harm in giving options to street focused audience (like myself).
Agreed with most. This should just be an option, for those who want it. The track rats won't. Even the stock TA is a lot of car on the track, more than enough power out there. It could just use some stickier tires and bigger front brakes, then it might be the most perfect track car available right now. The Supercharger would be for the street scene, drag strip, and bragging rights. Nothing wrong with either, as long as it makes people talk about the Viper.

I could only really imagine Mopar releasing a supercharger kit, rather than Dodge offering a viper model with it installed from the factory. An article describing future FCA models on Allpar was released today. A lot of it is speculation and rumors, while some of it comes from some inside sources. The only information regarding viper is this, "We understand minor power increases are being worked on for Viper, with a new Viper ACR replacing the TA, adding downforce and an adjustable suspension."
I can see them offering a SC option on the GTS model as thats the one most kitted out for the street.
But I think if they do offer a SC it probably should be available across the board because we all know not everyone that buys a TA/ACR/SRT is a track rat. So for those that bought it for the look and not so much for the intended purpose can also put the SC on if they want. More choices makes more of the demographic happy.
My thoughts exactly. Average owner does not track their vehicle. I'm glad the engineers do keep this a track car, and a damn good one at that. But if you had a bolt on factory package to bump HP to big figures, this would hugely appeal to the average buyer and draw in all sorts of new buyers. There shouldn't be any heat soak issues for guys going full throttle from light to light once a week. Or doing a bit of a highway pull now and then. At the end of the day the average consumer is not a trackrat. They are people that want bragging rights between their buddies.
oem supercharger offered on production viper rumors...
I just don't see it happening. Would be a cool option for sure though!
+1 for a Factory Kit, but not offered with the Viper. I think we might see 680-720hp in the Viper but not too much more. To be clear, I have no evidence to support this position.
As noted above, the Gen V has a TON of power for HPDE track days; most cars on the track will have substantially less. Learning to use all of the existing power effectively is a tall order. Driver ability, tires, brakes, downforce, track participants, etc. will all be factors before more power. At some point, short of bragging rights, one needs to ask how much power and how fast you want to be able to go on a roadcourse in a car that is not race-prepped with full cage, fire suppression, etc. (There are also insurance and liability issues). My buddy who is/was a gentleman racer in NASA and other series (many series wins), rolled his 550rwhp Evo and had a cage--good thing!!! He keeps that car in his shop as a reminder. To have much more power and speed than the Gen V, I think I would prefer a full race car. Of course, I would love a OEM software upgrade to go from 645 to 710hp!
Let's see what SRT thinks!
Well good thing the Viper is currently testing the composite blower with near zero heat soak. That should keep the naysayers at bay. It is going to ge a game changer and varients will show up in the complete dodge lineup as a halo car should do.
