Free Corvettes and they won't drive them!

    LOL!

    http://blog.caranddriver.com/manches...ree-corvettes/

"Chevy, which pays roughly $75 million a year to sponsor Manchester United, dropped off a collection of 15 cars at the team’s training facility in April, assumedly hoping to capture some candid moments with stars like Wayne Rooney, Angel Di Maria, and Radamel Falcao behind the wheel of a brand-new bowtie. But as The Mail Online reports, the cars have gone untouched by the team’s most famous names, although training-ground staff do occasionally use the vehicles."

How many Vipers were dropped off for free or sponsorship to a team? Got to love GMs success in marketing.

They dumped $75 million (including 15 Corvettes) into a team that won't even drive the cars. Sounds like a $75 million marketing failure to me!

Wonder if they were Right Hand Drive? You would be amazed how many people will not go near a Left Hand Drive car in the UK.

I also don't think any of the Players are exactly Sports car guys? Could you imagine the bad press if they wrapped one of them around a tree or through a wall!

Still If they want to throw a free one my way I would be happy to have it as a Daily driver

id bet a bunch of them are sports car guys...but they are not going to go from owning and driving a lambo/F car to a vette, regardless if its free.

edit, did a fast google search: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/wor...ollection.html

Sadly I have met a few that claim to be "car guys" that hate on domestic cars constantly...

If you really are a car guy you will like cars based on performance not on the brand...

That said, this failure is really very little to do with the Corvette and very much to do with targeting it to the wrong people. GM has given away superbowl MVP Vettes that went ignored too.

Athletes are among the most flagrant practitioners of conspicuous consumption in our culture. Their status on the team and in the community is very tied to earnings, since the starters often make double or treble what the backups make. As a result, if a starter is making $4M/yr, even if you gave them a ZR1, or hell, a Time Attack, they probably wouldn't drive it, because even if it's a dynamic and speed step-up from their Aventador Roadster, it's an MSRP, and thus a status, step down. You don't want to be on page 8 of Sports Illistrated driving a sub $150,000 American car when the guy who subs when you're injured is on page 2 driving his SLS or 650s. That's not going to win you street cred.

On a serious note, though, if someone gave me free sports cars, even if it was a WRX STI or something, I'd park mine and drive theirs just for the sheer joy of drifts and burnouts without tire and clutch maintenance fees.
