Finally ran finished build, tires spinning on wheels

I finished my build of my '99 ACR this past summer, built NA, big brakes, r888's, etc. Ran mid-ohio this past weekend (it was pretty cold, low to mid 50's). The car ran great, I kept it very safe running about 6/10ths, and still managed 1:42-1:43 laps. Thanks JonB for tires/brakes/parts, detailed build thread is coming soon I promise....

Anyway, every few laps I developed a strange vibration. It was only on some laps not others... I did some troubleshooting and marked the tires and wheels, sure enough the tires are spinning on the wheels. Surprisingly only the rears appear to be a problem, no movement on the fronts.

I've read other sources that when mounting you can use a sealant, or hairspray to prevent the problem, but have no idea if this is just people talking out of their ass or not.

I've heard of it on very powerful cars and very sticky tires and track prep

You could try lightly sand/media blasting the vertical part of the bead mount on the wheel. I heard they did this on the new Camaro Z/28 and it worked well. I had a friend do this on his CTS-V as well, as he was having the same issue at the drag strip and it fixed his problem. You might try bead sealer first as well, since its cheap and easy to apply, but I think a media blast would be a more long-term solution.

My rear 18" drag radials rotate on the wheel about 6-10 inches after each event. It used to be worse, but then I used 3M scotchbrite pads to scuff the wheel bead area, and aerosol hairspray to mount the tires. So yes, it does work, but doesn't 100% cure the problem. On a road race car, it might cure it. I'm around 1,300 rwhp though.

In the old days drag racing we used sheet metal screws.

Thanks all, going to try the sealant first, the shops going to do it for free and I like the sound of that :-)
