    RT/10 vs GTS

I thought I would share my experiences of owning 2 Vipers with you.
Recently I purchased a 2001 GTS completely stock, except for exhaust, with 20,000 miles. The car had been regularly serviced at a local Chrysler dealer and showed very little wear and tear.
I also have a 2001 RT/10 with 15,000 miles that I have owned for 2 years now. The previous owner of the RT was just as much of a perfectionist as I consider myself to be. Regardless, over the last 2 years I made subtle changes to the RT to improve the drivability as well as the appearance. To this end I installed Woodhouse Urethane mounts, 3:55 gears, flushed and replaced the clutch and brake fluids and replaced all the other fluids. But until I started driving the GTS I hadn't realized how perfect the RT had become.
This past weekend my wife and I took a cruise up North to look at the fall colors and stop for lunch at one of the resorts. Even my wife noticed that although the coupe is a nicer car on a long highway drive the roadster was much smoother.
Now in all fairness the GTS has Corsa exhaust and the RT has Random Tech. The Corsa is much noisier and probably better suited for the open car. I will probably switch them.
I got to see the difference back to back and compare mods like 3.55's and mounts.
    They do make a difference

How's the driving experience in the GTS vs the RT/10 with its top off, back glass out, and windows down?

Describe the gears and mounts differences? Debating both myself

Motor and trans mounts are a must in any Viper. But if you are saying the RT/10 is smoother, you must be referring to how much stiffer the chassis is. The RT/10 flexes more and soaks up bumps. You may also have better tires on your RT/10, that makes a huge difference. I owned both cars at the same time for over a year and there was no doubt the GTS was the better car.

When I drove a viper with stock gears and then mine which has 3:73's , wow what a difference! Car feels tighter when I had the motor mounts and tranny mount replaced. There was an annoying rattle because I had headers installed and didn't realize the motor mounts were trashed and the header pipe was bumping up and down on the frame.
It would have been a lot easier from what I was told to have replaced the motor mounts when doing the headers...

This is what I was referring to. I don't have headers but I'm thinking to exhaust system may be torqued slightly too. Maybe touching the frame somewhere when they get hot.
But for sure 3:55's or 3:73's with mounts are a must for any Viper.
Also flush and replace the clutch fluid every couple years or so.

That leads me to the question, what differences there are in the frame construction that would make the GTS stiffer / less flexing?

The roof stiffens it up. I loved my RT10. I drove a bumble bee coupe before I bought the RT10. My hair brushed the roof in the coupe. It was too confining for me. 3:55 gears are a must have. If you retain the stock headers, remove your cats from the door sills. It makes the car run better and the cabin is noticably cooler. I had a 96. I never got a check engine light. I'm told you may need a tune on the newer cars.
