Which aftermarket stereo did you install?

Just curious which brands/models have been used to replace their stock unit. We will be upgrading the head unit so we can get an aux input as we haven't owned cd-r for awhile, so burning music CDs most likely won't happen.

There are tons of options out there so we thought asking before jumping might be a reasonable idea!

Stuck with Alpine for both HU and AMP:

You can change the color to orange which has a pretty good match to the instrumentation in the Viper, so it looks more oem

bluetooth hookup and all that is fantastic though

I went old school and installed my Sony CDX-C910RDS which was collecting dust in my basement. I ended up replacing almost everything (speakers, amps).

Curious as to what you all did as far as the DIN connector.
Were you able to purchase one, wire one yourself or hard wire the unit?

I think a lot of people just rewired their own. I've seen on a few different threads that they don't make an adapter, though I told my brother that and this is what he showed me.

I created my own DIN connector. Actually, I created 2 of them, one for the headunit and one for the (pre-) amp in the trunk. I have seen a very few offered on Ebay, selfmade I guess...

That is right and the reason for installing it in the Viper. That deck was one of the best sounding head Units at the time and I am convinced it can still compete with today's top headunits. Back in the day Sony produced some real top notch gear, unlike today ;-(

Here's an overview of what my system looks like. It sounds very good in my ears but it cannot (and is not intended to do so) compete with the V10

    Nice system for sure.
I had a C910, few 90s. Same goes for the 210 pre amp and even few xdp4000s.

Few of the Sony gear I hated to get rid of was the XES 50 systems I had.

You are right, Sony made some kick ass gear that beats just about anything you can buy today.

Wow, seems like you had some of the best car audio devices ever made (IMHO)! Have you ever had this monstrous 2 channel amp XM2000r? That is a heck of an amp! Unfortunately way too big to fit into a Viper LOL. Still have the Sony catalogues from those years and flipping through them every once in a while....(sorry for getting off-topic here).

    Yea, I had a few

Sadly my collection is all gone. They paid for my first investment property, which helped me buy my Vipers. So yea. I suppose you could say my car audio equipment funded my Viper

BTW to get back on topic, I currently have a Pioneer DEH80PRS in my daily and my Viper. Offers a lot for the money.

Sorry for being off-topic one last time but seeing now your pictures with all these amps I remember the exact same pictures from a posting on the diy mobile audio forum quite a while ago. In fact, there can't be too many people on this planet ever having owned these many XM2000r! Lucky you I can only say... ;-)

Nicely done sir! Nice deck too! For anyone else wanting to following in your steps you can get it a lot cheaper from Amazon.

    http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-80.../dp/B006Y44DAY

Though I did want to ask. Can you plug an AMP up to this deck and run the speakers from the deck and the subs from the amp? I don't need any more power going to our 6.5 subs than the factory amp can put out. Like I stated in the OP that we are only really looking to get an aux jack so we can stream Amazon Prime music or Pandora. The talk radio is just horrible... lol

Yes you can power the speakers off the deck and sub off an amp.

In my daily, I have this deck set to network mode. I have a Alpine PDXV9 5ch amp running to Kicker QS tweets and mids in the doors active off the deck without the big Kicker crossover, the sub is in the back.
In the Viper I have a PDX-V9 running some older speakers I have had for a while off this same deck.

As far as price, if you want to buy it from a local big box, Best Buy matches Amazon.
