Our last road course of the season and the final event in our Triple Crown series was quite the success, despite the lovely Illinois weather doing it’s best to bring us down! Everyone showed up nice and early to get check in taken care of and set up their cars. Things were a little scary as it was raining pretty steadily as we all pulled in. By the time we headed into the driver’s meeting, the rain had stopped, track crew were reporting fairly decent track conditions, and we were ready to light up those tires!
The first session went out and discovered that the track was still pretty slippery. Unfortunately, this wasn’t going to let up any time soon. It sprinkled on and off most of the day and the track never really got up to ideal conditions. It was certainly an exercise in patience throughout the day. There were no new record times around the track, that’s a definite. Luckily, there was coffee and doughnuts in the morning to keep us warm. Once we all had a caffeine buzz going the concession stand had an ample supply of hot chocolate.
At the end of the day we still made some great memories and had plenty of laughs. It was a great learning experience for rookies and veterans alike. After all, we could all use more practice navigating unfriendly conditions and this day was just that. Thanks to all our instructors and our safety director (Mark Schumann) we were able to end the day with no unfortunate incidents.
Don’t let the weather make you think there wasn't any competition going on. As previously mentioned, this was our final event in the Triple Crown series, and it was a close one. A big CONGRATULATIONS goes out to the winner, Doug Campbell! Enjoy the hardware, Doug, and don’t forget to share some tips and tricks with the rest of us! Of course, there were several great performances for the day and everyone left with a smile when it was all said and done. Congrats to all the days winners, great job! One quick note, due to the rain slowing most down a bit, we will not be posting individual lap cards as we have done in previous events. If you would like your individual lap times please send us an email at info@illinoisvipers.com and we will get that to you. Great job again and we can’t wait for our next event!
