That actually makes sense. When I started seeing the trap speeds associated with the weight of the car I thought it might actually put down 650rwhp or so.
Cool Vid.
I hate liking this car.
Bruce
So its actually making over 770 HP? If its showing at the tires of 670 hp and a conservative 15% loss for drivetrain then thats 770HP. At 18% loss that would be 790 hp??? Whats up with that? Why would they advertise such low hp or was this car a ringer? If thats a stock engine and thats what they are all making then Holy Shit that car is crazy... LOL.
Yeah who knows. I guess we'll see what they make when they all start hitting the streets and induviduals garages.
That being said it does go to show just how much power it takes to move something that heavy down the 1/4 at a slightly slower trap speed than the Viper. 110rwhp more for a similar result.
Especially amazing review of an SRT product considering it's from Motor Trend.
Thanks for posting... its exactly as the one we ordered last week, so nice to be able to see it in detail.
I'd heard the underrated rumors since they were announced. Word around the water cooler was closer to 730 hp than 707.
Nice car for a land yacht , but whats the point if it has to dial the power down after a spirited drive.? Then its back to being the rolling chicane it always has been.
Power and weight!!!!!! Awesome none the less however, I suspect they are still dialing it in for all conditions and situations so I would not put too much stock into the final numbers until they hit the showrooms and end up on the street. Test one of those cars as that will be final numbers!
I say this as when we were all enjoying the Homecoming in Detroit, the Hellcat was running the 1/4 mile at Bandimere during the Mile High Nationals. The 1/4 mile times and trap speed were slower than a Colorado member's 14' GTS runs just a week before. It was similar conditions out for ambient. The cars are fast but again, do not discount the Viper as it would have been a driver's race on who actually won with is a testament to both cars.
The only reason to buy a Hellcat over the Viper is if you need to seat more than two and if you have a little less cash to spend. Can't go wrong with either option. I suspect the real final numbers will be closer to the 707 HP number when it is finished which is nothing to sneeze at. Just wow!
The future Viper Hellfire option numbers will have everyone wanting to trade in their Vipers on the spot. I suspect it will be a feeding frenzy which will help put EVERY Viper out there young and old. Great time to be into cars. Just wish I had a little more extra coin as I would be all over a new 14' if I could, even though I would still long for a Hellfire level of power.
My guess is that most FI production cars are probably rated with a correction factor for elevation and thus make more power at sea level.
Once the break in miles are on it... I'm sure a trip to the dyno and hopefully Fontana will be in the works... SoCal member Lyle Larson will probably do the dragstrip honors... For those who don't know Lyle he is an ex pro drag racer... and worked at DC Performance for many years.. It'll be cool to see what he can turn.
825hp is the new 707hp

Someone needs to remake "Vanishing Point " Using the New Hellcat !!!.....lol !
I just liked having the Halo car in my collection. I bumped from the standard coupe to an ACR for having the Pinnacle performance Dodge car. I love all Mopars and have owned an SRT8 Charger myself. I just want to see the Viper on top (watchout soon). Love the car and may even like the Charger more. ok back on topic.
Great video

Mark, they did it so the 2016 Viper could be 1007 hp! That means 1-car with 007-license to kill and exactly 300 hp more, just to ensure it's place in history with American "exotics" from the big three with just over 1,000 hp. 7 is a strong number so run with it. Okay I am funning but you are right, they must have a reason like the early engineering fluid dynamics must have shown a 707 projected number or something.
Incorrect. I own both, and for guys that are 6'4 or taller the Viper (Gen V included) is too small to live in comfortably. That's OK; it's a sports car (not a GT car) for over-sized drivers.
Challenger, on the other hand, is like dropping into your favorite lounge chair. Sooooo comfortable. I think some people that might consider Viper will favor the Hellcat Challenger on interior comfort... not solely because of the HP bragging rights.
...but more on-topic: what's missing from the Ignition feature are the results from comparable cars on that same dyno. We need some context! What did a 392 produce, SAE corrected? What about a Z28, or a couple of GT500's? Too much potential variation due to dyno type/loading...
