    Fall Foilage Cruise - October 3-5, 2014

    To all VOA Members,

This is our Fall cruise which is held in the middle of the state to draw members from both sides of the state. Williamsport is about 3 hours from Pittsburgh and Philadelphia (roughly). Last year we had over 20 cars and the roads are awesome.

I am sending out the hotel info so members can book their rooms.

    Residence Inn
    150 W Church St, Williamsport, PA 17701

    570-505-3140 Direct Number

They will hold the rooms until September 20th…

We have a block of 20 rooms, half King and half 2 Doubles

The price for our club has been reduced from $149 to $129, which also includes their hot breakfast.

Parking will be in the same location at the Blue Cross Building, and will be offering the security as before, both Friday and Saturday night.

The rough agenda for the weekend is as follows:

Friday Night - Dinner for those that come up Friday Night

Saturday - Leave the Hotel in the morning and do the cruise route.

Saturday Night Dinner and then party at hotel in conference room

Sunday - Most members have breakfast together and we head back home.

Chris Plankenhorn will be running the event this year with the help of our newest member Bryan Savage!

Please email Chris@plankenhorns.com for any questions about the event!

    Thank you,

    Mike

Driving or following a SidePiper Viper down a country road in the Fall, with lots of leaves and pine-needles laying along the shoulders can be amazing:

When you get the snake up to about 70mph++, it spills off large twin vortices alongside the Viper, of rolling, corkscrewing leaves and dust behind you. A horizontal tornado. It makes the Viper look just like the fighter jet scenes in TOP GUN, with condensation spilling off their wingtips.... A veritable Street Sweeper. "Eat My Dust" is a lot more sinister when the dust coils like a snake!

I helped plan the route for this thing, and it is pretty freaking sweet. The route is 220 miles long, and will take quite a while to drive. We'll have a few stops along the way for pictures and hanging out.

I tried to keep mainly to off-highway roads, so average speeds are not too incredibly high, but it's a real pretty route. Beginning and ending in Williamsport, but passing through Philipsburg and Renovo on the way.

I spoke to a K&L Auto Sales in Renovo (Chrysler dealer) and he said we are welcome to stop in. Also mentioned he's got around $3,000-worth of Special Tools for a 2001 Viper that he's not sure what to do with. I asked for some details and am awaiting some.

All of this route is paved, and I drove it a couple weeks ago in my TA. A couple sections are EPIC, and the opportunity for hooliganism is going to be everywhere. Please stay behind the lead car (probably Chris or myself). We don't want to have to ask a flatbed to go on the cruise with us.

There are more details to follow, and interested parties will be emailed maps and directions. Bring a passenger to get some pictures and video.

We're going to shove off around nine. Some people are arriving Friday night, so there will be hanging out then too. I hope the rain stays away...

It will be great to have you!!

Had a pretty good turnout and an awesome drive on Saturday. Got caught in the cold and the rain early in the day, but it cleared up and became awesome later on. Got some GoPro video that's boring, and took a few pictures with my phone. You can see the rest on my Google+ page.

The route turned out to be 214 miles, including a couple wrong turns I made. My bad. Stopped at a car show in town afterwards, but it was too cold, so I didn't take any pictures. Then back to the hotel for wine, cheese, pizza, cake, and to watch the rest of the Tudor race. Exhausting day, but totally sweet.
