Making a new Sticky Thread called "Emergency Travel Assist"

After reading some of the troubles members had at the NVE, maybe a sticky thread could be made for those that are driving outside their Regions and run into car problems. For instance one member said he was considering driving across country and if he had some problems of some sort he could post it on the “Emergency Help” thread if we had one. Those that are near him or could offer advice or assist. I know it took me 2-3 days to get new tires for my Viper, but I kept the old one in case I have an emergency. I really would hate to be stranded for a couple days waiting on a tire, if a club member a few hours away could assist. Just a thought.

I doubt if anyone would be coming through here but if we had such a threat and I could help someone I would.

I'll bring this idea up at our next board conference call.

In my Lambda Car Club (LCCI) car club, we have been doing something similar to this for years. Every year you renew your membership you check a box if you are OK with being contacted directly by other member(s) in the area if they should have an emergency while on the road.

This can be monitored. Someone can call VOA HQ to see if someone in the area is OK to contact. After hours you could call me personally to check the membership list.

Just a suggestion, because I'm not in the habit of reading anything in stickies past the first time. If you're away from home or you lock your keys in your car what do you do? You jump on the smart phone and reach out to the community either here or on the Facebook page. A new thread titled, broken down in Tampa, anyone have a spare rear tire laying around? If I'm home I respond. I'm a pack rat, just for days like this. I upgrade ball joints, old one is still good, goes on the shelf for you. I'm just less likely to read a new post in a generic "broke down" sticky. I do believe many if not all of us would stop what we were doing to help a fellow member out at a time of need. Heck, I'd even bring you to my house and help you with my tools to get you back on the road, and I'd probably feed you too.

Exactly. If you need help NOW, the sticky won't work, but the premise is good. What we use as I stated in my other club works great. Whether it be an accident or a break down, being able to contact another club member directly (through the channels I stated above) is the way to go. Members can wish to be contacted or opt out. Their choice.

Totally True...maybe once the emergency is over/fixed - delete the thread. No threads present...no current request for help. I think your right about the stickies, Maybe a flashing thread label to indicate someone still needs assistance, once assistance is completed no more flashing icon.

Also, GREAT idea about giving your phone number to the club in case someone in your area needs assistance...think most if not all would be willing to assist if the can,

+1 Great idea - and if you happen to know you'll be driving through the NYC/Westchester/Fairfield area in advance drop me a PM for phone number to skip a step.

I am down with this for North Texas. I always keep an extra set of tires on hand. I would not mind getting Viper brothers...and sisters back on the road quickly. Extra wheels here as well...

This is a great idea for us Viper people,we had a fuel line come off while on our way to Detroit in Scranton P.A.thanks to my wife who won't take no for an answer we wound up on a ramp truck and on our way to an SRT dealership with a Viper tech.,marverlous MIKE at BROWN-DAUB Dodge had us up and running by the next morning and on our way to Detroit once again, yes it was a pretty helpless feeling.I think it would be a great idea to net-work Viper owners across the country and abroad possibly. You don't just go to the local tire shop for a new tire on a Viper.Thanks.

I wanted to add this type of tab to my Viper Mobile app for android and apple before NVE, so if anyone had issues they could get contact info and also see how far they were from a Viper knowlegabe mechanic or parts for that matter.

In the same map we can also add fun stops along the way... safe hotels to park at night etc... I will build it if Viper owners will use it.

Here's what the race track tab looks like, the Help tab would be similar... includes name, website, phone number, pin on the map which will offer turn by turn directions to the business.

I have 3 colors- one for dragstrips, another for road courses and the best for last... Viper Track lap records

Viper Girl, great idea to have a visual data base that would be easily accessible on a cell phone for those who take long distance trips. Maybe you could start with Regional President info ( already public info on the VOA website ) and then add in additional data like Viper dealerships with known good Viper Techs. The list could also include those Viper owners who would be willing to help someone who needs help. Would sure like to have had that kind of contact info on our 4400 mile round trip from Phoenix to Detroit for Homecoming. Fortunately our Gen 5 was trouble free but you never know when you might need a tire repair or something.

Yes WhiteSnake, SRT dealers, known Viper Mechanics & Tuners... add in the Presidents... for other people interested in helping a stranded Viper owner... I can do that as long as the person knows the email will be public...
I'm sure that must be some service that could make emails anon... like craigs list does... I'll look into that this weekend...

VG, thanks for your all your effort. I'm sure many would use the feature if available.

Safe hotels to park at night and locations of viper techs would be the main things I'd use... not so much the track stuff.
With Tail of the Dragon, NVE, Woodward Dream Cruise, etc. I'd have around 4-5 times a year to take advantage of it.
I can't imagine how much work it involves... but yes, I'd use it.

Great idea...better than my Forum suggestion. I would be willing to help anyone who needs assistance while traveling through Western North Carolina. When/how would you want members to provide email/phone contact info to you. Again - Great idea.

I want to see if we can have an anon email service for members to be contacted with.. businesses would'nt need that... but for an individual I'd like to have a service that would hide their true email address... for spam purposes...
Last time I looked my app had about 3k downloads... anyone can download it, since it's a free app... Maybe I'm being over cautious, but I'd hate to give out my personal email addy/info to just anyone who downloads an app...

I'll look into it this weekend. I set aside sometime to work on the forum app... I'm sure I'll have enough time to do some research for this too.

    Thanks!

I admit that I'm not a mechanic, only have a garage to park cars, but if you are near Winston-Salem, NC, and have car problems, you have a safe place to park your Viper, a room/bed, meals, until you can make arrangements to repair your Viper (the Carolinas' region has a great network) and safely make it home.

If that's of interest to anyone, I would love to put my name and address out to our members who need assistance.

I won't put someone's address in the app, I think a very generalized area would be sufficient for any member in trouble. Then leave it up to the Club member answering the email what info they give out. Whatever goes into the app will be in an anon manner... somehow... I'll work on it this weekend.
